Hi Rob,

Thanks so much for that elaborate answer! That explains all I need to know an more. In my case I have cuttings. From what I read, the soil I use now may no be airy enough. One of my cuttings got brown an wilted so that's why I asked the question.

Hi,

Can someone please give me a good recipe for a soil mix for growing dragon fruit in a container?

What is the correct name for this yellow dragon fruit? I have seen both Selenicereus megalanthus and Hylocereus megalanthus for yellow dragon fruit.

Hi ricshaw,

Thanks for the quick answer. I was also wondering whether a cutting is still viable after a week?

Hello,

What is the recommended way to plant a dragon fruit cutting? Do you re-cut at the thickest point of the cutting and then stick the cutting into the soil? My own thought is that then you get both a fresh cut, plus a stronger bottom stem. Here is a pic of 2 cuttings:

This is all new to me so I would appreciate any advice.

Hey,

Does anyone know what Hylocereus family or hybrid Arizona Purple belongs to? I can honestly say that I have not found any information about this from my own research.

Does anyone know with certainty that Valdivia Roja is self-pollinating just like American Beauty for example?

Hi Don,

I don't know anyone who has a fruiting Eugenia lutescens outside Brazil. I have had no luck with Eugenia lutescens myself. Each time I have tried they died in less than 6 months. Some people believe in the cerrado curse...

Hi Don,

I never sell seeds. I give them away when I have extra seeds. I will keep you in mind if I ever get more  Eugenia lutescens seeds.

The variation must be great in fruit quality of the E. leitonii. My friend in Brazil tells me he has personality picked these fruits and he says they are "sweet and with very good flavor" .

Hi Luc,

How about Eugania leitonii? It shouldn't be impossible to get seeds.

Hi Bill,

To put Garcinia Madruno sweet in some context, I will compare it with 2 similar fruits that i have eaten. First off, I have eaten achachairu side by side with Garcinia gardneriana and in short achachairu is a sour fruit whereas G. gardneriana is sweet. But on the other hand, achachairu has better flesh-to-seed ratio. Then we have Garcinia Madruno sweet in comparison. Like I said it's also a sweet fruit but I would say it's not sweeter than G. gardneriana, and G. gardneriana offers more to eat per fruit and has better flavor than Garcinia Madruno sweet.

Tomas

PS. Here is what you can do with Sweet Madruno before consuming them:

Hi Bill,

A few years ago, I ate a few Garcinia Madruno fruits from one of his trees that he labeled "sweet variety". It was very nice but I cannot compare to regular Garcinia Madruno so I don't know how much sweeter this variety is.

Hi Miguel,

Sorry, got another question about this little gem. You said the fruit is sweet and very good. Can you also say something about its flavor? Does it remind you about any other fruit?

Tomas

Miguel,

Looks like a nice fruit to grow.  How old are your plants?

For comparison, here are some leaves of my Restinga

Hello Luisport,

I don't have a fruiting plant. As a matter of fact the my plants died. It's was really odd because all other Eugenias growing alongside Uvaia Doce Rugosa did well. So I am glad I shared seeds with a couple of people. About the flavor, my friend in Brazil told me this many years ago: "Uvaia Doce Rugosa has the best taste of all Eugenia species! Itīs wonderful!"

Hi Adam,

Must be about 4 years old now. Is that right?

Thanks for sharing Adam. It's apparent it grows extremely slow.
