Garcinia ID...?
« on: August 13, 2016, 05:43:20 PM »
Anybody know what Garcinia species this is? The one ripe fruit I tasted was seedless and tasted like banana citrus mix... it was a smaller fruit compared to other still unripe ones on the tree.

Sort of looks like Garcinia hombroniana but this fruit didn't turn red.. dropped from tree at that yellow orange color. However, I've heard Garcinia hombroniana is dioecious and this tree is a loner tree with no mates.

None of the fruit I've sampled had seeds so I have no seedlings. It tastes very similar to seashore but none of the fruit turned red. They fall off tree at yellowish/orange.

I believe it is Garcinia brasilensis  also called Bacupari. I have them in my garden.

I didn't want to create a new thread but i need help identifying these Garcinias

The bottom row specifically. I think they are Garcinia intermedia.

The one on the top left is suppose to be G. brasilensis

I noticed the third one from the left looks a bit different.
That one looks more like G. bras.

I heard through the grapevine that G. brasiliensis and G. intermedia are one and the same. If anyone can clear that up, that would be very helpful. I have both as tiny seedlings and they look very similar.

Photo would help Josh. I know I've seen "lemon drop" rheedias labeled as brasiliensis but I've always looked at them as intermedia/edulis. "Achachairu" as well but those are easy to tell apart from lemon drop seedlings.

Yeah, that is what I mean. Is there an actual difference between intermedia and brasiliensis or are they synonyms?
