What to do with cocoplums
« on: February 07, 2017, 10:58:28 AM »
My cocoplum privacy hedge has a whole bunch of ripe fruit on it now.  Aside from just eating them raw, is there anything else I can do with the ripe fruit?  They have a very mild semi sweet taste and the nuts are tasty as well.

If you get a chance could you post a photo or two of the hedge and fruit.  I am thinking of getting some of these going for the same purpose and wondered what cocopums look like as hedge plants.  Thanks in advance.

I've seen one grown in tree form and it was beautiful.
I like the fruit and nuts.

I agree, seeds are the best part. You can also cook them in a sugared water and then the fruits turn color and taste very good, kind of like making compote.

What's the best way to get at the seeds, let them dry?  I found that the fibrous outer husk makes it hard to get the seeds out whole unless I'm doing it wrong.

The cocoplums i have i find a can crack the hull in my mouth and i eat them raw. But there are lots of different types of cocoplums, and some might be too hard to do this.
