Hi everyone, I'm going through all the PM's and there's a massive amount - I wasn't expecting this volume.
Appreciate everyone's patience, sorry if I missed your PM if you don't hear from me by tomorrow please resend.

Please email me for the pictures, I do not share them here as many people tend to claim it as their own (eBay).
Posting here adds to the queue of online searches. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Citrus Buy, Sell, & Trade / Re: Dekopon seeds
« on: April 06, 2020, 01:55:01 PM »
I have both the Dekopon and Shiranui, the they look and taste very similar, but my Shiranui is a dwarf with a ton of flowers.
The Dekopon is a 6 foot tree, mature and still holding fruit, minimal flowers.

I would think they'd flower the same time but they don't.
Taste wise, they've very delicious, sweet, lightly acidic, soft chewy bite, easy peel, easy to chew, no fibers, very easy to eat.

Never seen a single seed, in dozens of fruits I've consumed, very strange didn't even know they had seeds.

Do you have images ofyour crystal and seedless thai

Yes I have both but I don't share it on here because of IP Copyright issues. (Ends up on ebay or somewhere else)
I dislike the fact that my own pictures are being used by someone who claims it's theirs.
Email me and I'll send you pictures with my watermark on it, along with my metadata.

To make it simple, lineage is from chnursery.
Long story short, the tree purchased from them was in terrible shape, graft didn't even properly take.
I pruned and regrafted on my own tree and it's been doing great since, had several fruits.

Hi Waxy,

You mean we have to order minimum 4 scions per variety or 4 scions per order?

Good question, I can only 2 per variety to be fair for everyone else to get a taste.

Minimum, order of 6 scions.

Thanks for asking!

I've had more luck growing atemoyas than cherimoyas here.
If it's a cherimoya, I have it on an atemoya rootstock.
Dr. White, Booth and Honey Heart grow well for me here.

They're more resistant to rot with the amount of rain and overcast we get here.
IIamas don't grow well here, even on atemoya rootstock.
Rollinia, very cold hardy here for some reason.
Soursop, haven't had any luck unless they're grown from seed or on atemoya rootstock.
I have several sugar apples, they are very cold hardy for some reason.
Frost does damage their leaves, but they bounce back very well.

If it gets leggy and the branches are bending at the tips I'd prune it.
Let the energy focus in the center or towards older branches.

« on: December 06, 2019, 02:05:58 PM »
Noticed a lot of leaf burn on the jabo.
Leaves dropping is a sign of stress.

The issues I see:

- High volumes of fertilizer
- High volumes of unknown fertilizer analysis
- Fertilizing every 2-3 weeks is insanely high for a jabo, unless you're in the 10b or above
- Branches being black means they've been poisoned/over fertilized

Solution

- Thin out the dead branches
- Apply generous amounts of worm castings (Neutral fertilizer/nitrogen fixer)
- Keep pot in a warm and sunny area for it to recover

I only use home made worm castings, osmocote and a few other things, never the premixed fertilizers from hardware stores.

Good look with the recovery, jabos bounce back very well, they're resilient.

I usually repot during winter or late winter then prune.
Spring they'll explode with growth.

Jack's response is accurate.

My Vernon is holding a fruit with smooth top and bottom leaves.
Suebelle has fuzzy bottom, smooth top.

That's insane growth, we have only 5-6 months of growing season here in the Bay.
What happened to all of the bark? Did you rub them off or did it grow so fast that it didn't show any signs?

I was going to guess 6-8 years.

I have a 3 footer that is 4 years old 1/2" caliper or less and it's fruiting, yours is definitely much older by the look of the growth.
That's a hell of a deal for 35 bucks.

Careful about putting it in the ground, they have a very evasive root system.

Went from a 7g pot to a 25g pot in the same year.
It's already rootbound...

It's possible, but give it space since they're nitrogen fixers.
I'm repotting mine into a 45g early next year.

(Old picture several months ago, will update with a more recent picture upon request)

Specs :
- Seed Grown
- Outdoors in 26F 9B
- Flowers consistently
- Several pods pending harvest
- 25 Gallon Container, pending 45g next year

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Alano sapodilla pruning advice
« on: June 09, 2019, 03:06:51 AM »

Fruits were less than half the size a year ago.
I can provide an updated picture by the end of the year and the fruits will be barely the size of a golf ball.

I’ve pruned more than half of what you see in the picture, they’re still very slow growers.
Especially here, many exotic fruits take their time, end making these fruits available to your grand kids and not you lol

« on: June 08, 2019, 05:46:30 PM »
I had a similar problem with my Alano in the past.
I just pruned the sides and let the center grow.

As it matures, the top branches become thicker and stretch out more, if you're looking for height.
If you leave the growth that low, your tree will remain a dwarf since all the energy is diverted evenly.

Such a healthy looking tree, I'd leave it and perhaps search for another tree that is taller?
A single branched tree should be a great start, then it'll start to grow more uniform as it matures.

Thanks waxy.  The tree does look really healthy.  It was a father day gift from my two little boys so they watch it everyday waiting for a fruit to grow.  I told them we going to have to be very very patient. :)

When you mention prune the sides and to allow the central leader to grow do you mean maintain the sides at a shorter length or cut them off?

How is your Alano?  Would you mind sending me some photos of it.

Thank you

I waited until late winter time to do the pruning, as many other trees.
They take a long time to heal from the wound, and I would not put anything on the wound, the sap it excretes is more than enough to keep pests away.

Growth habits here in NorCal are different, temp swings are one of many factors, so late winter is the best time for us.
It begins around late April (Early Spring) all the way until early October then it goes completely dormant.

My tree is quite old, I think it's well over 10 years old, grown in a container.
Clusters of fruits on it right now, but the fruits take 2 years or more to mature, yes 2 years.
I think I have your contact number, shoot me a PM if you want to see some pictures or I can email you.

Waxy

Got some stuff from her as well, shipped very fast, awesome stuff and very large cuttings!
As of today, they're all pushing growth, inches by the day!

Forget the haters, they're just jealous and want to claim everything is theirs.
We should be thanking her for providing us a share of her bounty.

Maybe I need to point out that all of the pictures "Someone" posts on their ebay auctions are pictures from another country claiming it to be their own, when it's clearly from the street markets or stores LOL
