Help Grafting my Carrie Mango Tree
« on: December 18, 2017, 08:48:13 PM »
I want to graft Nam Doc Mai and Valenica Pride to my 5 Year old Carrie Mango Tree.  I will buy a 3 or 5 gallon of (Nam Doc Mai and Valenica Pride ) each and would like some instructions on how to proceed.

Thanks in advance.

If you go on YouTube and do a search for Mango Veneer or Mango cleft graft, you will get several very informative videos. Truly Tropical has great videos on YouTube as well.

Graft when it’s warm and there is active growth on the rootstock and prep your scions before you remove them from the donor tree. Practice in the meantime with random plants that have a similar hardness of wood as Mango. I like to graft green scion onto green rootstock branches whenever possible.

I do not know how compatible Valencia Pride would be with Carrie. It is the most vigorous of varieties while Carrie and Nam Doc Mai are medium vigor trees. Maha Chanok, which is productive as well, will be a good fit along with Nam Doc Mai.

Maha Chanok is a much better mango than VP too. Good luck!
