Update on my plants:

About two weeks ago, I put out my An Hai, Wusu, & Dongkui Male out for some morning sun since they were having small leaves and buds pushing.  I forgot to put them back into the back patio before going to work and so they sat in the hot sun for 8 hours, and that day was especially hot :'(.  When I went to mist them later that evening I realized my folly!  The leaves, tips and buds were all brown and burnt :'( :'( :'(.  I clipped the brown tips and removed the young brown leaves but left the buds.  Now they are in intensive care and thankfully small little green buds are appearing again, not as much as before but at least they are still alive.

An Hai has leaves coming out from the rootstock, I will leave them on for now and hopefully that doesn't take away from the graft producing leaves.  Poor plant had the most growth initially and had the first flush of leaves.

The Biqi, Black Carbon & Dongkui Female were kept under the patio because the first two had just a few tiny green specks on them and the Dongkui F still isn't showing anything.  I'm happy to say that the Biqi and the Black Carbon have flushed out alot now!

I trimmed back all the dead branches of the Dongkui Female, hopefully she shows some kind of growth soon.

I can't find any Monterey root knot nematode solution here, ebay or amazon.  Anyone know any online place that ships these :-\.  I don't think the M. Californica or M pensylvanica rootstock would do well here so I was trying to find the M. cerifera rootstock.  I tried purchasing rootstock from the etsy seller that roblack mentioned but he said he can't send to me :'(  I've ordered cuttings and just received them and hopefully they root well so I can use these as rootstock, sometimes it is aggravating living so far from the mainland US :'(  I am very thankful though for being able to participate in this endeavor and for being able to receive seeds, cuttings and plants from members on this forum!

Has anyone tried using or heard of Myrica Faya?  It is supposed to be invasive in Hawaii and Florida, if anyone happens to have this plant please message me, it seems like this would be the ideal rootstock for my place.  I would naturally be very careful with it and have it contained so it doesn't become invasive here, and it shouldn't be able to if it is being used as a rootstock.

Hell yea that’s great news, thanks for the update. What medium are you using?

I'm using Ocean forest, perlite and Miracle-Gro Cactus, Palm and Citrus Potting Mix.  It drains really well but stays moist too.  Today was my 2nd watering since I potted them.

I'm trying to temper my excitement with caution cause it still may just be residual energy but my An Hai has tiny leaves now!!!  It is the only one that had the knots in my bunch so I'm a bit skeptical of this plant.

An Hai with root knot

I dug down a little in the soil and saw some tiny white root tips and didn't want to dig further out of fear I might damage something.
The Dongkui Male and Wusu still have the green buds but haven't gotten any bigger yet.  The Wusu has gotten more little green buds down it's stem though.

My Black Carbon and Biqi now have a few of the tiniest tiny green buds just showing.

My Dongkui female doesn't look great though, she was the biggest with alot of branches but there is no buds in sight and the thinner branches look like they are drying up :'(.

Cerakat,

Leaf buds can start to grow before roots are established.  I have found it’s important to maintain high humidity for the plants while they are recovering.  If you cover with the large trash bags, make sure to check on them often so too much moisture doesn’t build up and cause mold issues.  I was advised to cover any cut ends with parafilm or buddy tape to prevent further moisture loss in the branches.  Your trees look nice, good luck.

Janet

Thanks Janet!  I will make sure to check on them daily to make sure no mold develops.  I will tape up the ends that I had cut so no more moisture is lost to them.

Do you think these are leaf buds popping out or am I just hoping they are lol?  If they are, do you think they are from residual energy and then they might die or it might indicate that the roots are establishing themselves?  3 of them (An Hai, Dongkui Male, & Wusu) have these little green bumps

but the other 3( the 2 biggest ones the Dongkui & Biqi and the smallest one the Black Carbon) don't have any bumps on them that I can see.  One of the Black Carbons tips look like it is dying back :'(  I trimmed it to where it was green still, took off like 4 inches.  I thought the other 2 was also dying but when I trimmed one branch tip from each it was still green.

I couldn't find any clear plastic bags big enough to cover these, most stores have been plastic free bags since beginning of the year.  I finally found clear trash bags from my friend, should I cover them now or it won't matter anymore since they've gone without it for a few days?

Just got my trees, THANK YOU Bill and everyone that helped him!!!  I've never had a bare root tree so I appreciate all the advice and experience some of you are sharing!  I have them soaking right now with some seaweed emulsion and will pot them up in a few hours.  I have never seen root knots and am worried about spreading it here so will keep these in pots and start looking for rootstock.  Unfortunately I do have one tree(the An Hai) that has the knots in the roots, the other 5 I don't see any knots.  It's very intimidating having this as my first experience with bare root, reviving a plant, receiving a tree with no leaves and looking like dead twigs(but I know they are alive cause there is green when I scratched it and the medium Bill sent it in was still moist!) & fruit tree I've never heard of until this forum lol plus being a new fruit tree grower, I hope at least one lives haha!  Happy growing all and I wish the best to all that are trying to grow these tasty sounding fruit trees!!!

Thanks,
Claire

Thanks I hope they continue to grow well and fruit fast! ;D ;D ;D ;

Other sapote varieties that I got seem to like the weather here.  I have these in full morning sun and dappled afternoon sun, they seem to like the heat so I put the regular green sapote community pot in full sun this week to see if they will be ok with it and they seem to be doing fine.  The white fleshed ones were in a community pot too but I up potted them this week and they don't look like they went through any shock from getting separated.

I'm new to fruit plant growing (my 1st year) and this forum is a great wealth of information!  A lot of members here have been very helpful and patient with all my questions.  They are also very generous in spreading these plants around.  I haven't tasted or seen most of the stuff I get from here but I'm super excited that I am able to get the opportunity to grow some of them!!!  It's just killer that I have to wait so long to try them!!!

Hi, I was lucky enough to get 5 of Raul's green sapote with white flesh & 5 green sapote regular on the early part of April.  Most of the seeds came healthy even though it was a long ship time.  They were well packed and had no mold on them.  One of the white fleshed seeds was soft and the other was semi soft, they both didn't make it but the other 3 germinated pretty fast for me and are doing really well.

A few days after I got them

Pics of the green sapotes with white flesh today:

One of the regular green sapote seed was soft and the other 4 germinated good too.  One of the green sapote sprouts got squished by my cats so I have 3 doing well and I'm hoping that 4th one pops back up.

I'm sure those that germinated for you will be ok!
