They are the size of a ping pong ball??
Hey Rob,

Not quite Ping Pong ball size but almost there. They are pretty big as far as Surinam Cherries go :P.

55

Is this smooth Variety call the Champa Surinam Jack? I got some plant from a nursery in California last year, and they told me its smooth skin.  How big does your Smooth skin Surinam get?😃

Hey Coconut,

Fruits have gotten pretty big so far, the biggest I have seen so far are almost ping-pong ball size. Seeds aren't that big in relation to flesh ratio either. This smooth variety is unnamed. I bought it from Norman and IDK where he got it from. There is no grafting scars on the tree either so I'm guessing it was started from seed.

Hey Everyone!

Sorry I've been gone lately, been extremely busy with my new school! I absolutely love it!

Anyway, my Smooth Surinam Cherry tree is going off right now, I have to go up to the tree once or even twice everyday to make sure I can get all of the fruit before insects or birds! Fruits are smoother than ever... even less of a ridge on any of the fruits than the first time it fruited. Taste is sweet, and honey tasting as usual.

Saving up for a new greenhouse so hopefully I can make part of the cut :P.

Refer to http://tropicalfruitforum.com/index.php?topic=10866.0 for pictures and more information.

Im going to put these up for trade and sale.

Bush2Beach, are you in Santa Barbara?

No it is not that. Is that Inga fuelleli? I am almost 100% sure that what Norman has is Inga striata after comparing photos. Also, Normans tree does not bear at this time of year, usually the season is from March to July, and sporadically throughout summer.

Here is an old thread on this subject:

Sorry, got my facts messed up, it should be fruiting heavily from November to February, and then sporadically fruiting throughout the rest of the year.

Everyone who this may concern:

Norman got a bad gardener and his Ice Cream Bean tree has been cut down.

But since there is still a stump and since it is an Inga, it will probably grow back in the next 6 months.

I will not be able to supply fruit/ seeds from this for a while.

Thanks for understanding,

Bad Gardener? That doesn't make any sense at all. It would take a chainsaw to drop that 30 + ft tree with a 30 ft wide canopy. It's a huge specimen that's been there since '79 or something like that.
I know Norman has it topped, but to cut that thing down to a stump would take serious miscommunication and probably result in someone having a very bad day as Norman will boot you off his property for touching a fruit improperly.  He said he had not watered the tree in 30 years so water issue is not a reason to chop. Only thing I can think is he wanted to utilize that space for more planting and his intention was to top a large percentage of the tree. Bad gardener is understatement of the year if he didn't want that tree cut down.....Law Suit more like
I am curious what really happened and hope Norman's doing well.
Norman is doing fine, but what I know is that's what happened.

Forgot to add:

Plants are $35 each and are 1-4 ft. tall (taller trees likely) but I cannot be sure since I have not seen them in a while.

Thanks :D.

Great to hear you got germination of Prainea Limpato! The fruit looks really interesting and rare, would love to see progress update photos in the future. Off your wanted list, I have a Annona tomentosa tree (however its most likely 2-4 years from fruiting).

Thanks buddy!
Lucky one! Let me know if it starts to bear fruits! :D

In Japan, Yuzu and Kabosu start to fruit these months. Bought some at local green grocery store:
Kabosu are the orange ones, Yuzu are yellow. Both fruits are used primarily for making spices, the Yuzu have very pleasant, strong and refreshing citrus scent.

I love Yuzu! I have a small Yuzu tree that produces fruits that look just like yours Mihavo, have you ever made Ponzu from your Yuzu juice? Homemade Ponzu is the best!

I guess I am going to use all polycarbonate because it turns out I actually have a surplus of large polycarbonate panels. There was some laying around in the basement… so thats a +

If it's not greenhouse grade with a warranty, it's a minus.
Comparing them to my greenhouse panels they are same size and shape. There isn't a warranty on them but oh well.

68
I haven't fruited anything that I have grown from seed yet, but I do have a strawberry guava that I am almost one hundred percent sure was started from seed, which produces quarter to egg size fruits, and does not have any seeds.

I am worried about using treated wood because I have read, and heard, that the toxins used to sterilize it can make the soil unsanitary.

72
Cool! Thanks for calculating oscar.

Very nice! My glenn just came into bloom and I am point that it is not going to get to cold for it or rain too hard... fingers crossed  ;).

Craigslist. Tough market those 2 materials; not much industry inherent surplus I'm afraid.

I had one local talking about calling glass install companies and getting used glass doors for choice retrofitting.
Cool!

Thanks for sharing... I will have to call one of the glass companies  8)

Thanks for the link Ed, very informative website! I see that they are using welded galvanized frames... it seems expensive but worthy in the long run.
