Mangos are dominating the topic and for good reasons South Florida has had an amazing year. Here in SoCal we’ve been devastated by late winter February 20 and record heat July 6 in the summer as a result our mango season ended before it got started. I’ve loss 95% of my mango crop I’m lucky if I get 50 mangos this summer. Fortunately there is hope on the horizon, here I share some pix of the the upcoming anona season.

Just my opinion but I’d take a good anonna over mangos any day ! Like Simon said earlier , you have one of the best anonna collections in So Cal .

I concur mostly on what annona king of CA wrote (at least to thr varieties that i have tasted).
While 'Pierce' i consider king of all annona species & calostro , an atemoya is the closest thing to a cherimoya bec of its sweetness.

I would love nothing more right now than be eating a Pierce cherimoya or a Calostro atemoya ....... well maybe and OS and LZ mango lol

I've been all mango'd out for about a month now ...and mangos are still widely available down here, but I can hardly eat another one. It's this time of year I get jealous of S. Cal guys as we just dont have the conditions for the variety of annonas like you.
So how can I get my hands on some of these fruit down here in so. Fla this season? Please let me know how and who to order from.

I heard you Jani. I myself have eaten over 100lb of mangos this summer in fact I’ve been eating mangos since January in the tropics, it’s time for anonas. I hope to be shipping and selling anonas locally and perhaps if you are on business in SD from December to March you can stop over and try what I have in season.

Unfortunately that was a one off trip...no chance of shipping my way? Or do any of the local growers there ship to south Florida? I'm happy to pre-pay for shipping.

I'm curious when we'll start seeing Ilamas grown from seed from Raul among folks here. The seeds I got unfortunately never sprouted (they got some sort of fungus), but I'm looking forward to hearing about the good varieties that are selected from the seedlings people are growing.

All these red flesh reticulatas are of the highest quality anonas. They are as good as any top tier cherimoyas I was taken aback when I first had them.

John, fruit & spice is the wrong place to find a good anona. I've tried rollinia and custard apple there and I spit it out basically inedible.

Not yet "selected", but JF has crossed A. Rosada and AP (fake PM!) and in 3-4 years from now we might see some the interesting results! :) Here's a 1 month old seedling in a ~1 gal airpot.

JF, that one seedling is suffering from a bit of a zinc deficiency due to my using coco coir and being away for work a bit too long. Some cal-mag and zinc should get it back on track.
Your new Ilama x A. Cherimola sounds very interesting! You might also want try the reverse, A. Cherimola Pierce x A. Diversifolia Genova Red. The mother tree side tends to keep the taste characteristics! :)

I haven’t been able to cross diversifolia w any other anona except Rollinia. I will try soursop x diversifolia and next year glabra x diversifolia

Arent you guys worried about the neurotoxins in Anonas? Since I read about the possible link to parkinson's disease I was too scared to eat them. I love sugar apple :(

Lots of people in Asia eat anona everyday. We don't hear people in those countries with any brain related diseases. Only US has lots of people with brain diseases. I think it's the drugs that are available in US makes cause brain diseases, not anona.

Lots of people in Asia eat anona everyday. We don't hear people in those countries with any brain related diseases. Only US has lots of people with brain diseases. I think it's the drugs that are available in US makes cause brain diseases, not anona.
I usually eat 3 soursops fruits a day when in season in the Philippines & 1 bag of atis for 10 years (when i was there) and i guess my system is full of annonacin aka neurotoxin. But hey, im still alive & ready to eat more annonacins. :)

Giant Geffner aka Randhir is huge goes up to 4-5lb but wait until the 1-2 kilos Yucatán saramoyos come online as good as any atemoyas or cherimoyas

How do you keep the squirrel and rats away from your annonas?
One freak'n squirrel was dancing around my trees. I tried to beat it with a broomstick, in the process of chasing the dame thing, it picked one of my larger cherimoya right in front of my eye while it was jumping around, then took off with it.
So far, I lost about 10 cherimoyas .

I have a feral cat and use one bite that keeps them at bay but new ones pop up with mango and guava season underway
