Eugenia Burkartiana for sale. From Helton Josue’s Garden!!! This is the more rare Orange variety, NOT the black variety. These seeds go for $25-$35 each. Cost for seedling is $45 plus shipping. Over a year old. Has some cold damage but it’s pushing new growth as you can see in the close up picture. This is said to be one of the best Eugenias to eat out of hand. Reportedly has a sweet berry like flavor with minimal acidity. It is native to Joinville, Santa Catarina, Brazil and reports indicate it can handle temps down to 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Anyone Have Ripe Avocados in December?
« on: December 21, 2023, 03:13:34 PM »
Ok, drymifolia, then lets forget about the smell test, I couldn't really detect the smell when I checked on the Derek and Nancy yesterday.

So, no leave smell test will be performed. But, I will send you some of the leaves mentioned above.

I never smelled the leaves because I only had scions, so can’t speak on the smell of the leaves vs the smell of a scion. Maybe the smell is only detectable, or more noticeable in the branches rather than the leaves.

I just grafted some “Derek” scions yesterday and was immediately hit with a minty/anise type smell as soon as I cut the scions like drymifolia mentioned, never smelled this before with any other varieties I’ve grafted.

Does anyone have a mature Hass tree that holds fruit into the fall/early winter. My neighbor has a 35+ year old tree that has year round fruit on it, however, the fruit isn’t great. I wonder if it’s due to the age of the tree or because the fruit stays on the tree for so long. I should ask him to try one that’s been hanging on the tree for awhile and one that set the previous summer.

Great thread Kaz

Wow Kaz nice find, those are some really nice looking avocados, and to be harvesting in December is awesome! Do they turn dark/black as they ripen or stay green? If you have anymore scions and or fruit please let me know. Would love to sample it...Thanks!

Price dropped to $175, or make an offer, highly motivated to sell. Thanks

Fruiting (with fruit on it now) Ice Cream Bean Tree (Inga) in large 15 gallon pot for sale. Also in the same pot a soon to be fruiting Surinam Cherry bush. Price for the combo is $225, local pick up only.

This is a common type of Inga. Height is about 5ft tall from top of pot. The tree is currently fruiting and has several pods on it (please see pics below)

There is also a Surinam Cherry bush in the pot that should fruit soon. I believe the fruit was black, but because it’s a seedling there’s a chance it could revert back to red, if it does turn out to be red, I have an original fruiting Zill’s Dark tree I will give you cuttings of for free, the fruit is incredible. I can also throw a couple small cuttings of the Zill’s in for free at pick up.

I’m too far north, but can I ask why you want to sell it? Very impressive

Thanks. Selling the tree because I don’t have room for it anymore, and kids are expensive around the holidays! Haha

37
Many thanks for the kind words Rob! It was an absolute pleasure doing business with you and I hope the Madruno grows great for you!

38
Hi Rob, I have an extra Madruno seedling, I never know what to charge for these things, does $30 sound fair? If not just lemme know what you think sounds fair and we can work something out, here’s a picture I just took

39
Hopefully you pack seeds better than seedlings  :o

Despite the unnecessary comment- if you want a pack of seeds for free I will send them

To clear the air, Nate and I traded two plants- he was unhappy with how I packaged the one I sent, so I bought the plant from him and ate the loss on the shipping and the plant I sent but apparently he is still upset

Thank you! I’ll take a free pack. Sorry for the comment I was feeling feisty this morning, but when people try taking advantage of others, comments could and should be expected...but ya the trade with you was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had on the forum...super stressful, and the packaging wasn’t even the worst part...and for the record the two leafed, not ready to be shipped yet seedling you sent died, quickly. How’s that nice, healthy Inga Laurina I sent you? Hope all is well!

Had powdery mildew and killed several of my plants but you know- i'm not the type to talk bullshit on a forum- pm me the address and you'll get your free seeds I have better things to do than deal with your nonsense

No Daniel, what you sent me was nonsense bud. How you could send another member something like this (See pictures below) AFTER receiving a well established, HEALTHY (absolutely no powder mold, now you’re just lying) seedling? And then completely ignore me and the 3 personal messages I sent you over a 3 week period? And then, your totally rude about the whole situation. I’ve always had positive trades with other members on the forum, you were the only one that tried to do me like that. It’s a bummer too because we probably could have had a nice, trading relationship on the forum for years to come, but when someone does that kind of thing, It’s hard to get that trust back...

And yes, that pine branch was actually in there, SMH...

Heres a picture of a seedling that’s comparable to the seedling I sent you (see picture below) The one you received is on the left in the picture, the actual seedling you sent is on the right :'( And you sent that AFTER receiving my healthy seedling. If I were gonna send a forum member something like that in a trade (I never would) I would at least give them a warning that’s it’s tiny and might not survive transit. You’re a senior member on the forum who comes across with a lot of knowledge, that’s what was so surprising Daniel.

Nate, I will buy the Kadsura yellow. I had 3 seedlings (purchased) but they all died.

Sorry Kaz someone texted me about it last night and I sold it to them before I saw your message here. Next time shoot me a text, anytime is fine. Sorry to hear you lost those seedlings, they seem to like a lot of shade.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / OC Fruit Exchange
« on: September 06, 2023, 11:55:47 PM »
Hello fellow Orange County, Ca Fruit Growers!

I’d like to start trading my homegrown fruit with other local members in exchange for their homegrown fruit. I think it would be a great way for people to try lots of different fruit without waiting forever to try it from their own garden. If you try some fruit you don’t like, and you’re growing it, you wouldn’t have to waste time growing it anymore. If anyone wants to barter please let me know. Only interested in trading with members who have been on the forum for one year minimum.

Currently fruiting now; Red Jaboticaba that are juicy and sweet, Arabica Coffee Beans, and Sugar Cane. In the near future we will be harvesting pineapple guava, dragon fruit, Citrus, Macadamia Nuts, Alano Sapodilla, Cherimoya, and more.

46
Fruit is elongated and larger than normal pitangatuba, there are 4 fruit on the plant right now. Seed is freestone. $95 OBO, local pick up in Fountain Valley

We’ve been feasting on Kaz’s Brewster Lychees the past two days. The flavor is a 10/10! Probably the best tasting lychee I’ve ever had. Very sweet and juicy with zero off taste. I could eat these all day. I don’t really taste much of that rose flavor thing like in some lychees, if there is, it’s extremely subtle, which is nice since I’m not a fan of the strong rose flavor in some lychees, it’s like eating a flower, IMO. Also, we’ve found a bunch of chicken tongue seeds  :)

Highly recommend buying one of Kaz’s air layers.

48
Or get one tree to save space and graft the others onto it. I concur on the royal crimson, very tasty 😋

Ya I should have looked back at my pictures first...the false mangosteen I had also had that pointy tip, sorry for the wrong ID Kaz! You should try false mangosteen though, I think you will like it.

Hey Kaz nice find, it looks like Garcinia xanthochymus (false mangosteen). I ate a couple a few years ago and if I remember correctly they looked like that, and the flavor was similar to what you’ve described. I enjoyed the fruit, some were sour and some were more balanced with good flavor.
Please save me a couple seeds 😉
