Tropical Fruit Discussion / Jackfruit in container problems
« on: June 27, 2020, 12:23:09 AM »
This is my 1.5 years old jackfruit plant in container. It is in this 12" container for 1 year. For the last few months the top leaves are drying with brown edges but the bottom side shoot is growing well and looks healthy. There is hardly any new growth in the top part. What ever new leaves it is rarely putting up in the top part are very tiny and not more than 1-2 mm in size. Hardly visible and not growing any bigger. The main trunk hasn't grown even by a few mm in height in last 3-4 months while all of the bottom side shoot growth happened during the same period. What could be the problem? some under watering might have happened during the summer months. Only organic fertilizer used but quite possible I little over used it. Last 3-4 months was summer in India. Any suggestions for recovery?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / jackfruit cut side branches
« on: July 18, 2019, 03:04:47 AM »
This is my 4 year old (2 years i nursery + 2 years in ground there) grafted jackfruit tree. Can I cut those lower 2 branches so that trunk becomes large enough quickly to bear fruit?  I should have done that when the tree was young but somehow missed it.

thanks

Thanks. Is the one below female then? Both look different. One is with collar and the other without collar. One must be female, right?

Can anyone help me identify whether it is a female flower or not?
I guess the below one is Male as it has pollen all over it. The one on top came out of its shield only today. Since it has collar I assume it is female. Am I correct?

Thank you Guanabanus. I applied potassium sulphate today and see if any improvement in a week or 10 days.  The fallen leaves are not of this plant.

These are my one year old seed grown jackfruit plant leaves. Most of the leaves except very new leaves are becoming like this with edges turning brown. Is this potassium deficiency?

thanks

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Jackfruit new leaves problem

This jackfruit plant is one year old and in 12x12 inch container. The new leaves are not developing properly as seen in the pic below. They are starting greenish yellow and remain small in size before falling off.

Thanks. Appreciate any help in identifying the problem.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / grafting type of this jackfruit plant?
« on: May 25, 2018, 08:43:04 AM »
Pic of jackfruit plant purchased from an online nursery.

What type of grafting it is?

I guess thicker darker one on the left side is root stock and the right side one scion. Is that correct?

Why are both in ground?

Do we need to cut off scion above ground but below the graft union after sometime?

Thanks

The small leaf in the 3rd pic appears to be due to salt burn. Whats that on the bottom side of the leaf in the 1st pic?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / jackfruit plant leaves
« on: April 08, 2018, 12:59:17 PM »
This jackfruit plant was bought from a local nursery when it was 5ft height and probably 2 years old. I planted this in ground about 7-8 months ago. It looks healthy putting new growth but recently I have been noticing this dark reddish brown stains on the underside of the leaves. This is only happening to the older leaves that are thick and dark green on the top side.   pics below.  What could be the problem?

Also tips and edges of the most of the older leaves are turning brown .   New leaves are looking good. pics below.

thanks in advance

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: mango disease?
« on: December 21, 2017, 12:26:35 AM »
Thanks Squam256. The photos were taken two days ago but they are already affected. Highlighted the decayed parts in this pic.

Is it fungus? If yes, what fungus it is? But the leaves are healthy and I don't see any problem with the leaves or tree overall. Its only the blossom and panicles getting affected.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / mango disease?
« on: December 20, 2017, 10:17:54 PM »
I have this 5-6 year old grafted twice a year bearing mango tree in the backyard. It used to fruit well earlier but has not given a single fruit for the last 1.5yrs though it is flowering regularly. It blossoms but soon the flowers becomes dry, black in colour and fall off. I sprayed it with copper oxychloride and carbendazim alternately every 10 days. The tree and leaves looking healthy with no signs of any disease. This time small fruits formed as shown in the pic but they too are rotting and pannicles too are rotting/decaying.

Any advice?  Thanks in Advance.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Jackfruit seeds germinated
« on: June 21, 2017, 10:26:24 AM »
I planted few jackfruit seeds 4 weeks ago. The taller one germinated 15 days ago and shorter one 12 days ago. They are Srilankan/Singapore variety seeds. The taller one germinated first and also from the biggest seed of the lot. The shorter one germinated 3 days later than the taller one and is from the 2nd biggest seed planted. The remaining are yet to germinate.

I would like to let one grow in the same place and remove the other one. Need help on choosing which one to keep. After 1-2 days of germination one of the leaves of taller one had slight brown tip and now the new leaf on top appear to be bent/deforming. You can zoom and see both in the highlighted boxes. Are these significant issue to discard the first germinated and taller seedling and keep the other one?

Thanks in Advance

I trying to grow jackfruit from the seeds I have. I live in southern part of India.  Do I need to start them indoors and then transplant to ground or I can directly start them in ground outdoor? Its summer now here and the rainy starts from June 1st week. They are of Srilankan Jakcfruit variety if that matters.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Precocious Jakcfruit variety
« on: April 21, 2017, 11:22:57 PM »
Thank You. It appears that this particular variety produces fruit 90% true to its parent. That's why I may want to pant seed if that bears fruit quickly than the grafted one.   Any thoughts guys?

I have both Srilankan (Singapore) Jackfruit variety seeds as well as bud grafted plants of the same variety available in our local nursery. Which one bears fruit quickly, the grafted one or seedling? Somewhere I read an article that says this particular variety bears fruit in the 2nd year itself if grown from seed. Is this correct? Appreciate any help?

Thanks
