Sapodilla fruit drop, chicle damage, roots
« on: August 06, 2015, 08:56:43 PM »
Is it a bad idea to plant an Alano next to a driveway/sidewalk in terms of either fruit drop or root damage? Or sap?

I remember seeing this question before. Anyway, I have it next to the driveway. I couldn't think if any way it could be bad. It used to be in a corner shaded by an equal sized lemon tree.

My 20 year old sapodilla is less than 10ft tall, so I figured this one is not going to get too big too soon.

Wow, less than 10 ft at 20 years old?  Which variety?

At least here in Florida most Sapodilla trees grow alot larger then 10 feet tall. My 6-7 year old Alano is alot taller then that already and my 3 year old Hasya is that tall already.

In California they grow very slow. Mine is 10 years old and is about 6ft tall.

You should see my 1 ft tall 5 year old miracle fruit. It's a horizontal bush. 300 flowers opened in the last 2 weeks. It just doesn't have the hydraulic pressure to push that far up.

The guy at the nursery said his parent plants were 30 yrs old and looked 12-15ft tall.
