Super Fast Lychee Air-Layer
« on: September 26, 2016, 10:41:32 PM »
An airlayer was made on my Brewster on July 31 this summer, so less than 2 months and the root ball was filled to about 90%. I used rooting hormone as a paste when I made it. Has anyone else had success this way.

I'm also interested. I know hot weather speeds it up but this is still faster than that.

I use the Hormex 45 as a paste, and keep the host tree well watered.

Wow, that's fast! I still need to check the air layers I put on Leos tree. The roots form fast in warm weather and when put on a healthy tree.

That is the fastest airlayering result I've ever seen!
Thanks for sharing, Mark!

Cool.  I wonder how it would work on slower things like Carob.

For sure I will always continue to use the hormone on everything I airlayer. My wax jambu airlayer is rooting quicker also.

Mark that was really fast, Did you used spagnum moss or potting soil? Because I will be air layering my 2 longan trees using special potting soil this time once I will harvest the fruits in a week.

Great job! How wet was your moss? Did you wrap it in plastic and foil? Did you have to add extra moisture?

Ethan,
The ball of peat moss was pretty damp, just enough to hold it self together. I used the thin plastic bag that you put your veggies and fruits in from the store, and then tie it tight with nylon string and then cover in foil. I never had to add more water to the mass.
