Citrus noob here, needs help
« on: September 03, 2017, 07:44:21 AM »

Having citrus problems, 1st pic is star ruby grapefruit, basically not thriving and seems to have some branch due back. 2nd is Meyer lemon just loving life with fruit on it, I don't get it really not doing anything different that I can think of. Last is tangelo, not thriving at all big die back.

Any help or tips much appreciated,

Looks like you are hacking off the feeder roots when removing the grass around the tree??????
Or using weed killer?
The lemon is the only one that looks as it is healthy at the root area.
Can you tell a bit more about management?

Need much more information on how you have been caring for these trees.

Water all the time (rainy season) and well sprinkler system,  citrus/avocado fertilizer every other month, wood chips around base of the two problem trees (maybe that's it?) the worse of tangelo I don't pull weeds around the tree because it has a black screen underneath the wood chips.

can you re-direct the sprinkler? I think your problem is over watering.

Going along with Susanne's question.  Tell us how you planted the tree into the ground.  Did you dig a hole larger than the size of the tree's root ball, thinking that the new tree would like a nice big hole?  Also, did you add any amendments to the back fill such as peat moss, leaf mold etc., or did you back fill the hole only with the dirt that was removed while digging the hole.
