Ilama seedlings dying.
« on: November 29, 2017, 01:53:29 AM »
My Ilama seedlings, after putting out 4 leaves are dying one after the other. I notice that the roots have become black and rotted. What could be the reason? Please help with advice.

To much water in the substrate?

They were treated with 350 ppm GA3. But I do not think they are very much etiolated. Will too much of GA3 cause them to die? I do not think it is too much of water.

GA3 makes the cells elongated and sensitive to light use less 50mg/l

Too much water and root rots.  Some Subdue and /or Alliette might help.

Also make sure the growing medium has nutrients.

Thank you. I already applied 'Ridomil' when the first seedling wilted and after two more died I have applied 'Carbendazim'. I have reduced water. The growing medium has nutrients.

GA3 can make seedlings not only elongated but more vulnerable to becoming a casualty from other causes.Damping off and dying back like that is nearly always due to soil fungus. Whether phosphonate or Alliette will help I don't know but clean premium potting mix to start the seedlings out is important.

My Ilama seedlings are now fine. Carbendazim seems to have cured the problem. It was probably a 'Fuserium' infection.
