When I was in Punta Gorda, FL, this past December I came across some fruit growing out and about that I couldn't identify. Any ideas? Thanks!

Yes. The Cordia sebestena is an edible fruit from Central America. In Guatemala it is called Siricote. Not delectable raw. Stewed like figs, it is at least as good as fig compote.
