Sarawak fruits part 4: Miri

I went to Miri hoping to eat the Durio dulcis (Tuttong) but the answer was allways the same "tidak ada"...

Buah jalayan Daemonorops periacantha a rattan fruit


Serait or Buah pekali: Nephelium maingayi (I like it, so rare !)


Beluno: Mangifera caesia (cf Red durian)


Dimocarpus longan ssp malesianus Mata Kuching (so small !)


Nephelium rambutan-ake  Black pulasan (sweet and juicy)

Wow gouralata your hitting the ball outa the park again.Your rattan fruit look like calamus fruit and there are many species with edible fruit including 3 species on the hill behind me.They are closely related to Salacca.I have never seen a Nephelium like that one I assume named that way because it is pink.The black pulasan is also impressive.

You'll have to run outa good stuff to picture very soon.It could be bananas and beans next time  ;).

Those black pulasan really are black!  I keep seeing people calling purple pulasans black.

I have yet to try Nephelium maingayi.  We don't have it around Tenom.  I saw a British TV show where a guy lived with the Penan and ate one, though he didn't know what it was. 

I am eating those same longans now as I read this post.  Very spicy.  They are the only ones grown around here.  For some reason there are no smooth brown skinned types.

Durio grandifloris is supposed to be around Miri too.  http://www.syafisafiya.blogspot.com/  Looks a lot like D. oxleyanus but smaller.

What does the rattan fruit taste like?  Is it eaten out of hand?

I didn't taste that year but I remenber two years ago and they were sour. I don't know anything about Durio grandiflorus...

You didn't taste that year? Does this mean these photos were taken long ago, or are they all recent photos?

All those photos have been taken between 18/12 to 29/12/2012. Bur I went several times in Sarawak.
