That looks like the ecuador wild variety.Thee is a big form of the standard yellow megalanthus that is becoming more frequent in the markets here lately. The fruit sell for a fortune.

These are from Peru and are sold and exported exclusively to Europe and Asia and do sell for a fortune.  They are even expensive in Peru so you will not find these at any of the thousands of corner markets in Peru.  They literally have to be ordered at a premium price.  They are the sweetest Dragon fruit that I have ever tasted and I've tasted over 45 varieties.

Not sure about the megalanthus, but undatus seeds keep for at least a year with very good germination rate.
Title: Re: Giant yellow megalanthus seeds for sale
Post by: Dragonfruit101 on November 20, 2015, 05:31:48 PM
If kept in a cool dry location away from heat they can keep viable for up to a year.  Germination rate is extremely high and germinate within 2 weeks if sowed in a moist soil or quicker using other techniques.

@ Don.  Hope you are happy.  Should have some extra seeds in there.  They actually germinate easier than any other dragon fruit and grow fast from my experience.

Seeds are viable for up to a year under ideal conditions.  Kept in a dry location out of direct sunlight.

Thanks Gunnar.  Hope you and everyone else are pleased.  Any issues or questions just pm and I will make sure to take care of you.  The USPS can be a little unreliable this time of year.  But it is the holiday season and they have a lot on their plate.  Thank you everyone and have a Happy Thanksgiving with your families.

haha, so let's just put mine at 11/26.. that's still two weeks after you.. I think our weather isn't warm enough to germinate.. need to put it near a heater or something? I'll wait some more before trying again.. thanks for your update.

I did mine on moist paper towel in a ziplock baggie in a warm dark place,  then transfer them into a disposable lidded parfait cup. So yes, warm and humid.  When I need to germinate stuff in the winter here usually the top of the fridge or the computer cabinet will do the trick

The seeds I got germinate fine. I used the classic ziploc bag resting on a warm surface. They took 12 days to germinate and 4 days to emerge from the soil after planting.

Here is a photo from just now.

Half the seeds I received were pulverized by the postal service but the ones that were intact sprouted in one week with bottom heat at ~95F. The first year of growth is agonizingly slow so I have plans to graft these seedlings onto vigorous established Undatus rootstock.

Wow that's really fast. I noticed some of them did sprout really fast and some of them take a really long time. I would suggest to anyone that planted the giant yellow megalanthus seeds to wait several months before giving up on these seeds. I'm still getting more sprouting, and I expect a lot more will sprout.

Sounds interesting.  Does it have any balance, or just sweet like sapodilla or ivory mango?

Well it's still a dragon fruit. Not close to even resembling the level of sweetness of any mango or sapodilla. Just has a nice flavor that is different from the almost tasteless other varieties that I have tried.

Well that could explain why one didn't yet.  Certainly wasn't expecting them to germinate as fast as they did but no complaints here.  Either way, I've been wanting some giant yellow megalanthus plants for awhile and now I just gotta wait a few years.

That's something else. dragonfruit seeds are black. megalanthus seeds are larger than undatus but they're the same shape.
Title: Re: Giant yellow megalanthus seeds for sale
Post by: Dragonfruit101 on February 17, 2016, 02:43:57 PM
Actually.  It is not something else.  The dragon fruit seed itself is not black.  It has a black membrane around the actual seed which loosens up as the seed dries out exposing the actual seed.  Don't worry that is an actual giant yellow megalanthus sprout in your picture.

This is definately NOT a dragon fruit seedling! As dragon fruits grow on cacti, the plants don't have leaves. Here are my dragon fruit seedlings to confirm:

Seeds of dragon fruits can take weeks to sprout, so they might come up for you :)
