Rollinia deliciosa problem
« on: September 05, 2018, 12:24:11 AM »
My Rollinia deliciosa has a black spot that I am worried about.  I noticed it a few months ago and posted about it in a Facebook fruit group but there was a general lack of interest, so thought I’d try here. Is this a fungal disease?  There do not appear to be any insects around. The tree seems to be doing okay above the spot but is the spot likely to cause problems in the future? What do you think are my best steps to ensure that the tree will continue to grow and perhaps provide fruit one day? Thanks for any advice!

It's pretty deep - I can try to seal it, or do you think the whole thing should be cut off?

Don't cut it. It looks like it still has good attachment.

Thanks, SteveO and Cookie M!  I'd really rather not have to cut off the main stem, so I will try your suggestions. Aloha. - Jen

I've had two rollinia trees that had the problem indicated in your photos.  The bark is deteriorated rather deep into the wood, and it seems to have spread from the trunk to the branches and seems to do more damage to those, causing leaves to yellow and fall off.  Any news on your tree?
