Looks really interesting!
Anyone know where it will be released to? Theater release, TV series or on DVD?

I assume it is a film based on this book.  I read it when it first came out and talked to the author through email several times.  Great book to read.

Very nice! Bill Pullman has lots of fruit trees going on in his little slice of Southern California>>>>>>>>

http://www.examiner.com/article/bill-pullman-open-to-playful-sinister-or-presidential-a-nice-blending-of-worlds-2
An important and beloved part of Pullman’s LA world is the huge, bountiful hillside orchard he has built up behind his house. Over 100 varieties of trees and shrubs there produce an incredible array of fruits.  Pullman is devoted to and passionate about every detail of his orchard’s care and welfare.  Fruit-trees are a life-long love of his. He planted his first orchard at 14.

Pullmanand his wife, Tamara and their neighbors have joined together to create the Hollywood Orchard project.  Working together, they harvest fruit from local trees. The fruit is harvested, prepared, some is used in baked goods and the fruit and baked goods are donated to local food banks.  (www.hollywoodorchard.org)

The group’s long term plan is to purchase a recently available tract of land where they would plant a community orchard producing fruit for the community and fruit to supply local food banks.  The project is already a success in terms of fruit picked and distributed and a strong sense of community.  Pullman took a break from breakfast the day we met to take an important call about orchard business—there’s a lot going on.

I think the movie was only inspired by the book Adam Gollner wrote, but the movie will be totally different, the characters in it different, no narration from Adam, and the plot quite different.  I heard it is scheduled to be released in September. It's documentary style so i think will get limited exposure in theaters and festivals that play these kinds of films. You'll have to keep an eye out as it might have a very short run time.

This is a post on their FB page a few days ago...

Hey everyone! we have a completed edit of the Fruit Hunters film! Just final touches now. You just have to wait a little longer so it's perfect (like letting Mangoes ripen).

I heard the film was supposed to be first shown at Toronto Film Festival (September 6-16) although looking at their website i don't see it on their list of films to be screened?http://tiff.net/thefestival/filmprogramming
Don't think the film has any resemblance to the book, from the excerpts i've seen.

Keep an eye out at your local film festivals and alternative film theaters. Don't think it's going to make it to the big screen theaters or TV.

I wish it would make it to Imax. But i think the chances are about as low as a politician not telling a lie for his/her whole political career.  ;)

Fruit Hunters movie preview screens on September 10 at 9:30 AM at the Toronto Film Festival. It's a 15 minute preview, not the whole movie:

In the meantime here is an interview with the author of the Fruit Hunters book, Adam Gollner:

We don't need IMAX for this movie!  We need FLAVOR-VISION.   Maybe the theaters should have (instead of buttered popcorn): saifu, Durio dulcis....
What's that got to do with Jose Andres $10 brussel sprouts?

hopefully with so many new people being interested in tropical fruits, a few fruits can break into the produce stands in the big name super markets instead of just small road side stands and nurseries.

Where is that from?  It looks like footage from the 1970's.  Is it a bit from a movie or a TV show?  It seems ironic that the picture quality on that footage (decades old) is rather nice, but if you look at youtube "Get a Life" episodes (early 90's) their quality is so poor.

It's pretty funny.  I'd definitely prefer FLAVOR-VISON on the fruit hunters though.  A falling durian would be painful in Feel-Around

LOL, its from a Movie called " Kentucky fried movie" its all parody.   to watch it now is kind of "dated" because many of the skits are parodies of TV commercials and shows of the time.  This was made by the same folks that made the movie "Airplane" "Top Secret" & "Naked Gun.  One other clip you should look up, is  "Fist full of yen" a parody on "Enter the dragon".

As for Youtube quality, it really depends on the uploader and original content, if someone is converting old VHS, quality is rather poor.  but if its a DVD rip, they could look just as good as anything made today.

Speaking of smell-o-vision i think they did that at one time, or tried to.

I look forward to watching the Fruit  hunters when it comes out, it should bring attention to all the "exotic" fruits available, people that have never seen a Rambutan, or even know what a Sapodilla is may want to go out and try them.  I expect new members to the forum after the documentary is released.

Kentucky Fried Movie!  I should know it then since I actually saw that film (albeit when I was a teenager).  I guess I forgot because the sketches in that movie were all over the map (some of the sketches were hillarious, some quite lame, overall I didn't really like the film).  This is actually one of the best sketches.

Yeah the youtube for Get A Life seems to be from VHS.... very poor picture quality.

William, don't expect masses to come flooding to the forum after release of this movie. It's not going to get wide exposure. For example, the other acclaimed move by the same director was Up the Yen River. How many people have seen that or heard of that?

Masses... well its not going to make this a big community.  But at the same time even an oddball niche film would generate a large ripple in a such tiny community like this.

If fruit were a popular interest (and I never understand why it isn't, but then I also wonder why there aren't cat temples for that matter) one wouldn't notice the effect of some minor film- but fruit is not a popular interest.
