Planting mango and avocado in the same hole
« on: October 18, 2014, 04:20:38 PM »
Actually planting them 2-3 feet apart. Is there any reason I should not do this? The months they give fruit will be three months apart. Thanks

Good idea. So I am going to keep roots separate-segregated with a barrier of corrugated plastic election signs

This seems to be an experiment you're conducting, zand, why interfere with the two plants' roots?
What I mean to say is just plant them as planned without any root barrier and observe the result.

One tree will probably grow a lot faster than the other, so pruning will be necessary to allow the weaker one to capture sunlight.  They might not be the most pretty-shaped trees in the yard.

Avocado is a shallow-rooted tree, despite it's initial taproot.  Mango puts out more deeper roots.  I wouldn't put any soil barrier between them.
Applying laws and rules equally to all is a cornerstone of a civilized society.

I used to do this with fruits that require male and female , planting 3 in the same hole , not a good idea , 2 of them always stayed behind growing poorly ....
