All of this lady’s posts I find idiotic but this one was certainly more offensive and thoughtless than most. I try to skip over her posts , I find them so stupid .

Mike Bender was an original. One of a kind.
Glad I got to meet him and it is clear his charisma and personalty touched alot of people.
I’m glad he got to do what he loved with the fruit tree’s and share the joy of exotic fruit tree’s with all kinds of folks. Gone but not forgotten.

Mike was a nice guy, he will be missed.
May his memory live on and his enthusiasm for exotic fruits continue to inspire.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Pitangatuba vs Pitomb

Everyone’s taste buds are different.
You gotta keep tasting new things to find out whether you like them or not.
Some like it hot, some not. Variety is where it’s at though! Grow lots of different foods and flowers .
I’ve had Pitangatuba’s I like a lot and some that were a bit too sour for me. They seem to vary greatly from seedling to seedling. I’ve killed the Pitomba’s I’ve tried to grow, not the right weather for them in Northern California I suppose.

Yes,I have to make sure the cuttings are hardened off and not green first. I’ll check and update this weekend.

Are you sure the assholes weren’t raccoons ?

I planted some purple sweet potatoes cuttings on the sidewalk infront of my house.  Some asshole stole it.
They dug the topsoil off  where I planted the cuttings.

I don’t think Orange seed’s are true to type.

So many microclimates I don’t really pay attention to the generalized zone’s. Berkeley way different than Fremont different than Vallejo , near the bay or 1/2 way up a hill above the fog line. In the flats or on slope. You can maybe pull it off in the east bay depending on where your at. Better luck if you get scion and graft onto a Manila seedling. Still dicey and may not hold fruit. Covering with greenhouse panels in winter would help keep it from root rotting while its cold and still getting light when the sun is out.

Where in the Bay area?

A forum search of chop and drop and nitrogen fixers will provide you with some good information.

Wow! Now we know what happened! How many packages did this happen to?
Thanks again for resending!

The leaves are not significantly thicker than other Cherimoya.
I have a few Dream tree’s in the ground and no luck with them being self pollinating here in Nor Cal.
Still no fruits after a bunch of years they’ve flowered.
I tried a self pollinating one in Hawaii and delicious fruit.

If Tommy Atkins is “the” commercial mango than zills most sub par random seedling should sell off way more. It’s all about that good name like gem, dream or queen to really sell it as well. The zill’s mango’s have great names.

How much was it?

There are a few folks growing all of these and more here in Santa Cruz.
I grow 7 types of Psidium, many Eugenia’s including fruiting Pitangatuba’s.
The best passion fruit variety to grow here hands down is “Frederick”.
I have extra Surinam Cherries and Pitangatuba’s if you’d like to buy or trade as well as a few extra Psidiums.
I have a nice 15 gallon Psidium Robustum and a fruiting size White Malaysian guava in a 25 gallon.
What part of town will you be growing?

1046
More packs available.

Bendy is better than snappy.

Witch one’s are those? Patience is a virtue in the fruit tree game .
To me this is a forum about wich plants to avoid growing as i dont like slow growing plants or the ones that take verry lobg to fruit.
Keep it going . ;D

There are spineless selections
Not a big palm lover and I hate things with spines, but boiled peach palm seeds/fruits are devinely starchy and delicious.

Why? What does it taste like? There is large Ginkgo’s planted as street tree’s here and I have never thought of them for fruit.
I highly recommend Ginkgo tree.  Very very slow grow.
