Thanks Har, so it will grow fine here in our yard.

Luis: about -2º C

I hope your fruit will be good!

Annona montana takes cold down to 33 Fahrenheit just fine, and survives several degrees lower.

There are quite a few products containing soluble Silicon, usually as Potassium Silicate.   One is Dyna-Gro's Pro-TeKt.  (Yes, written like that!)
Hi! How low annona montana can get? I just buy one...

Congratulations! I hope it fruit!  ;D

pulasan?  ???

I wish, Luís.

I never tried Pulasan. This one is hopeless for us, too tropical, to delicate.

I did try to grow rambutan, only to confirm it really needs very warm nights to show any sustained growth...
Yes i know... just for trying...  8)

Olá Luis,

If I'm not mistaken, the Portuguese citrus germplasm collection (Patacão/Faro) used to list 3 or 4 Pomelo (C. maxima)  accessions. It's a long shot, but maybe you could give them a call.

Please do not import any citrus material into Portugal. It's strictly forbidden and huge risk to the orchards we have in Algarve and the rest of southern Europe.
Hi Sergio! Thank's for the advice. Do you have any link or contact of them? Thank's!  ;D

Maqui is touted as a natural remedy for several health conditions, including arthritis and high cholesterol. In addition, maqui is purported to protect against some forms of cancer (such as colon cancer) and a number of inflammation-related diseases (including diabetes and heart disease).

Some proponents also suggest that maqui can help support weight-loss efforts, slow the aging process, promote detox and stimulate the immune system.

Benefits of Maqui

Studies show that maqui contains anthocyanins, a type of potent antioxidant. Research suggests that consumption of anthocyanins may boost your defense against high blood pressure and high cholesterol. In addition, preliminary studies indicate that anthocyanins may possess anti-cancer properties, fight obesity and enhance heart health.

Although anthocyanins may offer a range of health benefits, there is currently a lack of research on the specific health effects of maqui. One of the few available studies includes a 2002 report in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. In tests on human cells, scientists looked at whether maqui extract helped decrease levels of LDL ("bad") cholesterol. Results revealed that maqui extract did help reduce LDL cholesterol levels, as well as fight oxidative stress and aid in prevention of atherosclerosis.

In a more recent study (Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology), tests on mice revealed that certain chemicals found in maqui may have helped lessen pain (as well as offered antioxidant benefits and reduced inflammation).

Here is what is known so far: Maqui berries are very rich in anthocyanins, which are purple pigments with very high antioxidant activity. Specifically, maqui berries contain high levels of anthocyanins called delphinidins, which is also found in violas, delphiniums, and Concord grapes. But in maqui berry, these compounds are found in unusually high amounts. The delphinidins demonstrate potent anti-inflammatory activity, so they help to reduce the risk of a variety of degenerative diseases that involve inflammation. These pigments also inhibit the growth of colon cancer cells. Inflammation is part of virtually every degenerative disease, from cardiovascular disease to diabetes to arthritis. Any illness that ends with “itis” is an inflammatory disease. The anthocyanins exhibit powerful anti-inflammatory activity, and do it as well as drugs for the same purposes, without negative effects. The antioxidant compounds in maqui berry help to prevent the oxidation of cholesterol in the blood. Oxidation of cholesterol is a factor in the development of cardiovascular disease, including heart attack, stroke and hardening of the arteries. Regular daily intake of maqui berries or the berry juice is a smart investment in better cardiovascular health. Interestingly, intake of maqui berries or their juice causes a significant increase of insulin in the body. In fact, maqui appears to do this better than any other known plant. What does this mean? Consuming maqui berries or their juice with or after meals can help to suppress blood glucose, thereby evening out energy and preventing the formation of new fat cells. As a result, maqui may prove to be a beneficial aid in weight control. Maqui also demonstrates antibacterial activity, which suggests that it may aid in preventing illness due to foodborne germs. The Mapuche native people have been eating maqui berries and drinking their juice for centuries. And other non-native people in Chile have done the same for a very long time as well. Even in an environment in which the maret is literally flooded with so-called super fruits, maqui stands head and shoulders above most of them in terms of benefits. - See more at: http://www.medicinehunter.com/maqui#sthash.yWtcgYkU.dpuf

levels. According to studies, Maqui berry has 10 times more polyphenols than red wine and 100 times more anthocyanins than red wine. Because of the anthocyanins and polyphenols, the berry is extremely nutritional.
