« on: August 06, 2016, 08:41:18 PM »

A whopping 2 fruit!!  WTF will I do with them all?  Jam?  Pies?  Overwhelmed with the effing plant.  In case there are any that may have misinterpreted my post here...it was dripping sarcasm......

Wow! That's awesome. I've got a bunch of questions now.. How old is the tree? Did you grow it from seed? How many trees do you have? Are they dioecious?

No...it's not awesome.  The damn thing is probably around 12 years old and first started fruiting maybe 4 years ago or something like that.  Hasn't put out more than 3 fruit at once and not every year even.  If this were like most of these things...the plant would be breaking down loaded with fruit.  There are male, female trees, and those trees that can go into girls bathrooms with a wink.  I currently have one pure male tree and one female/herm plant.  The fruit from my tree have been very sweet and I thought very tasty.  Would have been 2 of the largest plants in the GH if not for heavy pruning early on.  The output has been disappointing to say the least.

Maybe when its flowering next year? Use a recirculating fan on high to maybe get the pollen spread around? Just an idea. Greenhouse plants do appreciate good air movement, edible or ornamental.

Would be interested as to the taste and the flesh/seed ratio.

How's the bee situation at your place ?

Flowers is the issue.  Two flowers, two fruit.  As stated...I liked the taste very much and was happy with it.  I ate skin and all which mixed up the balance a little more.  Fruit to seed ratio wasn't horrible.  The two flowers produced fruit when no males present.  It just has to start cranking out the blooms.  Very frustrating.  I have a couple of Adam's varieties grafted onto it as well as a couple male branches.  So will end up removing the male soon most likely.

Does anyone ever read?  Jay posted specifics, followed up by reiterating what a disappointment its been...yet people still post questions and/or make statements that have alrady been answered or addressed.

Well hell...picked one of the fruit and it tasted like shit.  Sour and flavor off.  Hopefully the last one will be better.  Nice turn of events compounded by lack of fruit.

What do you use for fertiliser?

It might sound too obvious or you already thought of it but maybe nitrogen is too high?

Is it in the ground in your greenhouse or in a pot?

A local grower here has Imbe trees that were loaded with fruit this year. All were nasty for some reason. Taste has been much better in previous years...

In the ground.  I usually don't hit this one with too much nitrogen.
