My dad really loves passion fruit. Looking to buy maybe around 10lbs edulis, and smaller quantities of other varieties if available.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Loquat grafing on quince
« on: April 23, 2021, 05:25:16 PM »
What? Loquat can be grafted to quince? Would it be possible to take an apple or pear tree and graft loquat to it?

It all depends on how carefully you transplant the tree from the container to the ground.  Also how carefully you properly water the grounded tree.  Your tree will probably lose some flowers and leaves, but should do alright.  Dig a hole just a LITTLE larger then the root ball is now, and do not all any amendments.  Be careful not to let the root system go completely dry.
I've decided to plant it, but I'm curious as to why amendments are a bad idea since I usually plant everything in large holes with lots of amendments because of my heavy clay soil. Also, would setting up a shade cloth help the plant adjust?

I multigrafted a potted lemon tree last year, and have been planning to plant it this spring (now),  but to my surprise the grafts have all put out flowers. Will I be able to plant it without the flowers dropping or should I just keep it potted?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Any good low sugar dragon fruit varieties?
« on: September 04, 2020, 09:29:28 PM »
Currently I'm growing halley's comet, physical graffiti, delight and an unnamed pink dragon fruit with thorns.  These all taste really good, but I have some close friends who are diabetic and I'd like there to be something for them to enjoy when they come over. Any recommendations on good low sugar dragon fruit varieties?

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Wanted: starfruit scions
« on: August 13, 2020, 10:29:49 PM »
I have a couple starfruit seedlings that I would like to graft. Could anyone send me a couple cuttings to try doing so?

9
I'd like to grow one or two in pots, so I'd prefer to buy dwarf carambola, but if nobody wants to sell theirs  I'm willing to settle for a normal sized one.

10
Are you selling fruit? I'd really like to try some!

The seedlings arrived in great condition and were very well packaged.

Now I'm mainly looking for older plants. So I'm most interested in 3+ year old plants.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Experiences growing Garcinia intermedia
« on: June 22, 2020, 07:05:04 PM »
Let's start a thread on Garcinia intermedia. Post photos with things like age, time to fruit, drought tolerance, taste, etc.... Just your general experience with the plant and fruit. I'll start with mine:

This is a seedling that I got fairly recently. While transplanting it, I noticed that it had a much stronger and larger taproot than any of my other Garcinias, and I cut off the bottom of its pot and fastened that to a larger one.

14
Just to add to my list, Imbe is something that I'd like to buy as a rootstock due to its drought tolerance.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Fruit related activities in Florida
« on: June 13, 2020, 08:35:09 PM »
I'm flying to FL in the near future, and was wondering what places you guys would recommend going to. I love tropical fruit but any recommendations of fun things to do would be great!

16
Plants arrived packaged very well. Kevin was very responsive and helpful. I messed up when repotting the Luc's and took the newspaper off before taking it out of the pot, and I ended up with half as many roots as I started with. :P

17
Thanks! I'll make sure to add lots of compost to my garcinias. How far apart did you space your achachas when planting them?

18
What type of soil do you guys use for Garcinias like achacha, Luc's and lemondrop?

19
The ones that I mainly want are:
Garcinia hombroniana
Bolivian Achachairu
Garcinia intermedia
Luc's Garcinia

Feel free to PM me if you have other varieties of Garcinia or anything else that's interesting for sale
