I accidentally broke a one year seedling right at the soil level. Most if not all what is left a tiny little piece barely showing and the roots.

Do you have any experience with mango plants sending new shoots when cut?

Thanks!

Citrus General Discussion / Gigantic citrus leaf - Basil shape
« on: September 19, 2020, 10:37:42 AM »
Has anyone seen anything like this before? I'm confident it's not coming from the rootstock and it's happening in one branch. The leaf is gigantic when compared to the regular ones.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Strange papaya seeds?

Has anyone seen this before? It's like a papaya trying to mutate into an avocado.

Every time I water mango seedlings I get the same thought. So when you water a tree it seems to me quite impossible for the moisture to reach the bottom end of the taproot.
In my sandy soil for example, it gets really tough to dig farther as you get deeper unless you add some water to the bottom, so how can I help the taproot when watering if the added water doesn't get as deep as the end of the taproot?

I hope I am not sounding very confusing, let me know if what I'm asking does not make much sense.

Has anyone been through this before.

This is a small banana planted in sunny spot and it does get hot and sunny these days. Watering has been consistent.

For the last 4 or 5 new leaves, I have been noticing a dark spot ont the cigar leaf and as it emerges the side looks burnt and scarred.

It doesn't seem to affect the overall health of the leaf or plant, but I'm just trying to understand if the plant is trying to tell me something :)

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Mango seedlings and sun protection
« on: May 06, 2020, 06:42:25 AM »
This is an almost 1 year seedling and here in a semi arid Mediterranean climate, it got hot pretty early and the sun is quite strong.

I was wondering if what we see here is a sign to shade it? Not sure if the photo is clear but it seems like the beginning of a discoloration in the leaves.

Thanks!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Cherimoya with no single viable seed - none?
« on: November 28, 2019, 05:47:27 PM »
I just had a cherimoya, washed the seeds and left them drying overnight. The next day to my surprise, not a single seed was viable aka floating.

Is that a common occurrence?

Thanks

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Zill varieties with commercial potential?
« on: October 06, 2019, 12:18:44 PM »
Hi,

I couldn't find this information anywhere, but are there any of the "new" Zill varieties, that show some decent commercial characteristics please? I know he patented one but I guess that's not necessarily for its commercial potential. Size/Vigor/S&H...

Thanks

Hi,

I acquired some mulberry cuttings and I was wondering if you recognize any variety that is difficult to root please. I consider myself novice.

WEEPING
SWEETLAVND
PAKISTAN
KOKUSO
ILLINOIS EVERBEARING
BLACK-BEAUTY

Let me know if you have experience with any of those please?

Thanks!

I have been collecting mango seeds for the last couple weeks and I have been wrapping each one in wet paper towel then seal it inside a ziploc bag.

Every couple of days the paper gets dark and very often rot starts to build and as soon as I notice it, I wash the seed and wrap it in a new paper. It seems that so far the main root is still pushing in some of them.

I was wondering if any of you is familiar with sanitizing the seeds, maybe bleaching? Should sanitizing chemicals have a negative effect on the sprouting process? If that's possible, it could probably save me some time replacing the paper.

I cannot use soil at this point and I can't plant the seed in the ground.

Thank you!
