Tropical Fruit Discussion / Humiriaceae - Information on family !
« on: June 11, 2015, 11:07:41 AM »
First I met this family was thanks to Vitor, or Brazilian member in this forum. From Whom I got two Endopleura uchi seeds. Unfortunately my seeds went bed, as I couldn't personally take care and my relatives weren't serious. But in future I definitely retry it.
However as i understand, this small family offers different other interesting edible species. Maybe anybody can give some more information on edible species, taste, uses......
In the Internet only limited sources seem to be available.
Thanks

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Question on Litchi with very big fruits.
« on: June 28, 2014, 04:47:31 PM »
I have currently successfully germinated Litchi seeds of an unknown cultivar and like o get more information on this cultivar (unfortunately I have no pictures)
I got it from a chinese shop.
I have eaten and grown Litchis before various times, but never this kind of Litchi.
First of all it was very big, bigger than an ordinary Rambutan. Perhaps the size of a medium-big Apricot. The skin was not hard but very soft with a nice pink colour.
Flesh was milky white, very sof (softer than normal Litchi).
Seed to flesh ratio was also favourable. The seed is perhaps twise that of a normal Litchi, but the size of the fruit is much biger. Fith only 3 fruits I was full, as they were very sweet.
Except their sweetness they had a very nice parfum like taste, I would say better than normal small Litchis.
I am not a specialist at all, but as I know the genus Litchi includes only one species. So it must be some special cultivar. can anybody help with information?

Fruit was from Thailand said the shop owner!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Davidia involucrata
« on: June 24, 2014, 05:49:01 AM »
Has anybody tried the fruits of Davidia involucrata.
I heard the fruits are edible (also there isn't to much to eat). I found a tree of Davidia when fruits were already dried and rotten. As i didn't know this plant I took only one kernel. Otherwise would have taken more. From the kernel two seeds sprouted, but one was eaten by a slug outside. The otherone is slowly growing.
Wondered if anybody has tried the fruits of Davidia?

Would anybody be intrested in Malacocarpus crithmifolius (Nitrariaceae)?
I may get some in a few months.
It is a rare shrub from Central Asia, growing mostly between rocks or on hills. It got very rare specially last decades, however t bears edible fruit (people say they taste nice, but I've never tried them).
Good pictures of Malacocarpus crithmifolius aren't unfortunately available on the internet. The genus Malacocarpus is closely related to Peganum, and includes only Malacocarpus crithmifolius.
The plant is a white stemed shrub with leafs a bit similar to those of Peganum (or even Crithmum, like the scientific name says).
The fruit are red berries.

Let me know if anybody is intrested I will try to get some seeds.

« on: February 13, 2014, 05:47:28 AM »
Hello dear friends!
Is anybody intrested in Limonia acidissima seedlings?
I have many of them that sprouted one week ago.
I actionally took the seeds from a fruit of limonia that got very bad and was not edible, but i achieved almost 95% of sprouting.
I live in Itly, so as You can immagine seedlings would be for someone in Europe. Don't know about shipping, but if there are people intrested I will inform myself.
