Tropical Fruit Discussion / Any one growing Reed avocado in FL.

I just recently grabbed a small tree and grafted onto one of my established Mexican trees. Seems like most grafts took. Curious what the flavor is like in Fl. I’m assuming they either don’t grow well here or the fruit doesn’t taste good in FL or they would be widely planted here. Anyone have a Reed in Florida that is producing fruit?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Pulasan Flowers Male, Female, or hermaphrodite? (Pic in post 8)

These seem to be pushing pretty quick now. I'm excited to see the sex of the flowers. There is about a week time span between the first and second pics. It is a grafted tree but I don't know the variety of the tree that the bud wood was originally sourced from. I'm hoping between this one and the seebabat I'll get some pollination and fruit set in the future. It's going to hurt to cut the flowers off this one but I'm hoping it might be big enough to hold a few fruit next season

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Grafted Pulasan Arrived From Hawaii

This made it today in pretty good shape. I actually think it may be getting ready to push flowers. I can't  tell for sure but some of the buds don't look like leaf buds to me. I've never seen pulasan flower buds though so I'm not positive. It's a seebabat. Hopefully it recovers well from the bare rooting.

Just got my Mexican garcinia scions. Curious if there is any chance they will take. They were in the mail for 30 days. I grafted them up and they looked pretty good but I can't imagine they can stay viable for that long. Some of them did still bleed some sap when I cut them. I took that as a good sign but I'm not sure if it actually means anything.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Anyone else growing artocarpus nanchuanensis?

I bought a couple of little one inch seedlings from Oscar a while back. Curious if anyone else has some growing? Mine seem to be very cold hardy. The seedling in the pic saw down to 28 degrees with only some very minor leaf damage. My large jackfruit lost all of its leaves in the upper third of the canopy so these nanchuanensis are defininity more cold hardy than the jacks. I did throw a sheet over this seedling but I didn't provide any supplemental heating. I still have not been able to find much info on these trees. So far, from the one decent picture I have found, it looks like they are similar to Kwai muk but larger.

I ordered seeds from tradewinds a few months ago. All seeds sprouted but only 2 ended up growing well. I'm hoping to increase my odds for a female and a male vine. If anyone has a couple vines going I'd like to trade a couple cuttings from my plants with a couple from yours. I may even have one cutting that is already rooted.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Grafted mangosteen progress

These were only grafted about a week and a half ago so I am assuming there isnt a real connection yet but I'm still a little encouraged. First one was grafted onto a mangosteen I had planted in the ground a few months ago. Second one was grafted by Warren in Puerto Rico and is still potted. I thought this one was a goner at first. The new growth molded and turned black but now it seems to be pushing out green leaves. I have 6 graded onto mangosteen root stock and 2 grafted onto Yellow mangosteen stock all together. I'll be happy with one good one.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / First problem with my Durian

Leaves recently started looking pretty terrible on one of my Durian. It started when the weather started getting hot in the spring. I'm hoping it is just a lack of humidity in the spring and the new leaves will come out looking better now that it's plenty humid. I'm thinking about putting a misting system on a timer to go on during the hottest part of the day. I removed most of the roof panels to keep it from getting too hot inside the greenhouse. It seems to stay just a few degrees above the outside temp now. Any ideas on if it is a humidity problem or if it's something worse?

Broadleaf papaya. I have a few available. $10 each or 2 for $15. They are about 10"-12" tall






This Quenepa is a Jose Pabon variety. Not sure if it is self pollinating or not. The people in Puerto Rico say it is but I'm not sure how they could be certain with so many trees growing on the island. Small plant. Around 8". $20.

Got a couple more grafted durian today. I have 3 in the ground now and one extra in a pot that I'm not sure what to do with quite yet. I think durian must be really hard to keep healthy looking in pots. I can't seem to keep the foliage on my potted ones looking nice and the grafted ones that I got in this week seem similar. The one in the center  of the greenhouse is the one that has been in the ground for a few months and the leaves look much healthier. I'm hoping a little fertilizer and just being in the ground will get the other two to put out new healthy growth.

The one in the back of the greenhouse is a variety called "Kunyit" (D-197). The center tree I believe is a Zibethinus x graveleons from Puerto Rico, and I'm not sure on the front one but it may be the same as the center tree.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Problem on loquat tree.

Anyone have any thought on what may be wrong with this tree? Started as a small area of peeling bark but it seems to be spreading fairly quickly. If I prune the whole branch off I would lose the two varieties  on that branch but it's looking like I may have to soon before it spreads to the main trunk.
As of now the growth looks healthy above and below this area.
