Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Thai Apple (Apple ber, Thai Jujube)
« on: October 11, 2018, 12:36:40 PM »
Last August, my two Thai Giants were loaded with blossoms, until Hurricane Irma came along and blew them all off. The storm didn't damage the trees, but I got no fruit last December.
They are now blossoming again, and barring anything unforeseen, should produce this winter.

Thank you for the link.  Very informative articles.  Thank you to the other responses to my questions, especially for the botanical name (Ziziphus mauritiana) for my specific tree.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Thai Apple (Apple ber, Thai Jujube)
« on: October 09, 2018, 07:56:39 PM »
I live in Huntington Beach, Ca., and I have a Thai Apple (not the traditional Chinese jujube - tag simply says Thai jujube) that has been in the ground for 4 years.  Last year was the first year it produced fruit, but in limited quantities.  When ripe, the fruit has shiny pale green skin and juicy white/sweet flesh.  This year, the tree is absolutely loaded with blossoms, but so far the blossoms have not begun to turn into fruit. It's been my understanding that this variety is self pollinating, as evidenced by fruit generation last year.  I've searched the Internet for information regarding this variety, but with no success.  First question: Has anyone on this forum had similar problems getting their tree to produce fruit?  Second question: Can anyone provide information or a link to articles regarding the growing of this type of tree?
