Title: Recommendation on citrus to plant
Post by: AndrewAZ on March 05, 2020, 11:29:02 PM
I the front of my house, I have a Meyer lemon planted.  Only reason I planted it was because it was a dwarf ad on clearance.  Going to replace it.  I found a place with interesting dwarf citrus trees and the 3 most interesting ones I have to choose are gold nugget, cara cara, and AZ sweet orange(a left over variety from the Sunkist plant that closed in mesa, AZ.  Have tried it and it is a very high quality orange.)
Just want to see what people on here think would be the best choice.

I would have a tough time between the GN and Cara as I have both yet they are so different and taste great. If I had to pick just 1 I would go with the GN.

Plant them both.  Use the High Density Home Orchard approach.  Place them just three or four feet apart and treat them like one tree. For a home owner you get plenty of fruit.  For commercial harvests the crop is lessened but for homeowner use its perfectly fine.  So instead of 400 fruits from 1 tree, you'll get a couple of hundred on each. This assumes the growth habit on the two trees is approximately the same so that one doesn't take over the other.

Try and find a Corpaci lemon. Super quality Italian lemon. They were available in AZ a while ago.
