Title: Citsuma scions for sale
Post by: eyeckr on June 04, 2019, 11:05:18 PM
I just trimmed up my citsuma and have some fresh scions up for grabs. $5.00 for a couple scions shipped. Very hardy for me and never been phased by my 8a zone. I'm sure it could handle more cold.

How much cold can citsuma take?

I'm not exactly sure how much cold it can take without any issue other than my 8a but I would guess at least 7b when grafted up on trifoliate.

At least -15°C (-26°F).
This is what I tested, but it could go far lower. The cold hardiness could be the same as poncirus.

The US has a large population and much of the population is resistant to making the change to a new system perceived to be "foreign" or "too much effort" .

We are slowly changing over for some things. Our auto's used to be all SAE nuts & bolts & are now all metric. I don't see the Temperature changing anytime soon though.

I looked for information on citsuma and could not find any. Are they sweet and are they OK to grow in zone 8a?

They are pure mandarin, probably satsuma.
They are poor bearer when young but it changes few years later.
We didn't find the limit to their cold hardiness.
They are seedless,
The fruits of the first flowers (they set flowers at least twice a year) are ripe before the first true colds.
I see only one cons, the tree is very bushy and thorny. It makes the harvest painful.

This plant is the revolution we were waiting for more than a century.
It pushes the culture limit one thousand kilometre north!!!
