Has someone fruited a malabar chestnut in a pot ? I will by myself one pot with the weaved up plants and i'm actually thinking of unweaving them and planting them in separate pots. Do they take transplanting well ??? Thanks for sharing your experience !!

Yes I grow them from seed and move them to bigger containers and they did not have a problem. I found out that seeds taste better if you let them sprout in humidity

thanks!! How big were your plants when they started fruiting ?? I suppose u are growing them outside ?

The ones that are woven together and grown in pot are Pachira glabra. The Pachira aquatica gets much larger tree and much larger pod.

I guess thats another plus for them being glabra and being smaller plants in size, regarding pot growing ...

Because there is a long standing confusion in literature, especially on the web, about the genus pachira.

How many years to fruit?

Yes definitely taste different. Aquatica has much stronger taste, and way bigger nut. The glabra can fruit in only 2-3 years. Aquatica takes 3-5 years.

This is 12 feet now but start fruiting 2 years ago.
It took 5 years to fruit, but the area is dry for it.

one plant will fruit on its own.

Thank u all for the replies, now I only need to find the plant, they are sold pretty much everywhere here..... I will keep the tread updated with the plant and the transplanting process etc etc.

I have one of those weaved ones also as a houseplant. They handle transplanting well. They are abused with very little light and water but still grow well. Good luck separating them. Might be pretty hard to do. Maybe you could air layer or root cuttings instead.

I already transplanted them , they had very few roots, very easy to transplant. They had a distinctive cut at the level of the roots so I think they were seedlings with too long taproots , which they have cut in order for them to fit in the shallow pot they were in.
Do cuttings also have the thickening of the trunk?? They may be cuttings also....
