Mystery Fruit
« on: May 02, 2020, 12:17:55 PM »
I found these this March.  They were on a medium sized tree with a bit of a weeping habit.  The fruit shape is extremely inconsistent. Some are perfectly round, and others elongated like an etrog, with most falling somewhere in between. They are entirely seedless, peel easily, and have three to four segments.  The flesh is juicy and sweet, without much acidity.  I'm guessing it is some sort of satsuma x ______?  I can't figure it out.  Any thoughts?

Thanks for your interest, all!  I neglected to get a photo of the tree.  It's in a neighboring town, but I'll get one if I'm over there soon.  The skin tastes pretty much like owari satsuma, not as palatable as kumquat skin.  I have not had orangequat, but I have heard that it is quite tart.  This is very sweet and mild, and also entirely seedless.  The seedless part is what's throwing me for a loop, as it's hard for me to imagine this being a random hybrid seedling.
