Just purchased this from Publix. Does anyone know what variety it is?

Looks like a Hall picked a bit early since maturity day is actually today. Hall is a great avocado. Great Producer.  Eats better in October I have a seedling of Hall that we enjoy

I just got a Carmen Hass tree from Four Winds. Anyone grown them before? Does it really flower and give fruits all year round?

Would the general consensus be to nip these suckers off? There are three new growths I’ve just noticed. Tree is still pretty young and has only been in the ground for about a year.

Looks like it's above the graft so the preferred variety. At that point it's personal preference I think, if you want a bushy tree or taller tree. More lower branches, less taller the tree usually gets. You take those off the main branch will get bigger. Up to you I suppose.

I'm trying to do the same thing with a young avocado in my back yard. sofar I have a Wurtz, but I want to graft onto it Murashige - a summer avocado, a Malama- a early fall avocado, and a sharwil- a winter-spring avocado. It is multi year project and I don't have any grafts or fruit yet, just the idea.

This avocado seedling has the most interesting branching... I assume this is some kind of genetic defect? The first node produced a single asymmetrical leaf and two branches, but each branch looks to be producing normal looking leaves now:

I got a small Ronnie tree from Lara Farms a few weeks ago.
Julian finally got budwood from tree owner after many years of trying and propagated some trees.
Fruit ripens Feb-April in South Florida.

I hope it turns out to be everything he said about it in the video.  And if it's not a tall tree, that will be even better!

It was just picked off the tree a few minutes ago.

P.S. (Today is Sunday 11-28-2021)
Planning to Report on the date when the last avocado of the Season produced in my Home-Yard;
I haven’t run out of avocados this Season yet.

For anyone in Florida, I have similar but maybe worse summer humidity conditions where I am located but mich colder winter conditions (usually lows in the low 20s a couple nights a year, sometimes lower).  I am looking for at least one variety that is very tolerant against the humidity, heat, and diseases that will produce where I with winter protection.  I have the cold hardy varities and failed with those so I would like to try less cold hardy varities that do not become an enormous tree if anyone has some recommendations.

Did anyone hear about the Luna avocado?
There are several articles about it online. Hass quality but small tree size.
Check the above link from UC.

Doesn't look anything like how Winter Mexican is usually described, but I'm not sure I've ever seen a confirmed photo of one. Looks more like an extra large Choquette or something like that to me. Marcus Pumpkin, maybe?

I see that they were calling it "Marvel" but changed the name to Luna UCR.  The article says it will become available to home growers in time.  I will trust Brad and a few others to tell us if it's equal to Hass in flavor!

I saw it but doubt its anything special based on their other releases.  But who knows, maybe it will be amazing and everyone will top work all their hass trees with it.   ::)

Or maybe just hype it up and collect royalties until the hype wanes.

Hi All,

I'm looking for recommendations for a Type B winter fruiting tree.  I was thinking Fuerte but if someone has a better recommendation, I'd love to hear it.

Zone 10A.

Thanks!

Fuerte is probably the best early variety but it is not a reliable producer.  It really depends on the conditions if it will fruit well for you.  Some times it flowers but sets no fruit.

Thanks!  Yeah, I've read that.  I'm not too worried about consistent production but would like good fruit when it does set.  Speaking of inconsistent production, is Nabal similar in production but summer fruiting?

Nabal seems to be more reliable but I can't say for sure since my nabal has only fruited for 3 years now.  Season is later.  Reed is the child of nabal and I think it is more reliable.  Fruit on Reed and nabal are similar.
