Is Excalibur the only source for this cultivar? Will anyone else be selling it this spring?

Others may have next year or so but as of right now, I think Excalibur is the sole source.

Why so much? :( Excalibur says theirs are the same price as all the others. I'd love to taste it first vs. NDM. I think the experts are evenly divided. Some prefer Maha. Others NDM.

??? ??? Of those who have tasted both, who feels NDM is better ? Poll time ??
For Excalibur it is easy, when you have so much budwood at your disposal, the ability is to produce new plants is no different than any other variety.

Not sure which experts you are referring to, but for those that have actually tasted both, I would not expect this to be a 50/50 proposition. NDM is larger, but for me, that's about the only thing better about it. Taste-wise, Maha Chanok is superior, in my humble opinion. In tastings that I have participated in or put on, I don't think I have seen NDM win the "best tasting mango award" when Maha Chanok was on that same table.

Maha is far and away the superior mango imo.....in numerous ways. Not only is the flavor superior and more complex, but it doesn't have the splitting or post-harvest anthracnose issues NDM has. Maha is also a much more attractive looking fruit. Both are slow growing and productive trees.
I think NDM is a pretty over-rated mango actually. Its a good mango, but I think it mostly appeals to people who enjoy their mangoes decidedly sweet without much other characteristics.....which I suppose is a lot of people, just not me.
I've got 2 Mahas and 2 NDM #4 trees planted....I might plant up to 5 more Maha trees....the only other NDM I'd like to add is an 'original' (not #4) NDM.

I guess I was wrong when I thought that there were those who prefer NDM to Mahachanok. That was my recollection from the old forum. And whom do I consider an expert? Pretty much anybody who is growing 6 or more mango varieties and has tasted a dozen or more. So I guess I use the term rather loosely! :)

:-) I'm not so sure about that ... The NDM is a ridiculously delicious mango. It consistently makes the list of curator's choice mangoes at Fairchild. Brix on those babies is in the 20-21 range. Noel rates it as one of his personal favorites.
To be honest -- having a strong North American palate bias myself -- the first couple of crops from my NDM tree didn't impress me that much. It was a mango that grew on me - an acquired taste if you will.

See...this is what happens when mango snobs congregate. NDM is an excellent mango. Anyone that tells you otherwise is not in line with the vast majority of mango eaters in the world. On this Forum where people ask about relative differences in fruit quality and taste, we all have a tendency to get a little too focused on this mango or the other to the exclusion of other excellent mangoes. We narrow in on minor flavor variations and complexities that tantalize our individual taste buds. I know...I am one of the worst offenders. But, my tendency to be this way stems out of the general obsessive compulsive nature that I and most of you so proudly display towards our fruit growing/eating hobby. So, in summary.....Warren, keep your grubby hands off of our NDM's!!!!!!!
