« on: August 12, 2013, 12:09:40 PM »
Kumu Aina farm is probably one of the most diverse tropical fruit farms in the area. They have all worthy marketable fruits that are in season, there every sunday selling some delicious treat.

Today they brought 2 crates of cempedak, I couldnt help myself, had to get 4 to enjoy :). Also had some other fruits below:

Look at the size of these kiett!!!!! :

Thanks for posting Roboto.  I don't tend to make it over to the Maku'u market too often & will have to make a point to head down there soon.  Hilo Farmers' Market doesn't have much of any anything unusual.

Robo, thanks for posting the great photos.  I am always interested in farmers' market scenes.  What do they charge for champedak?

I wish this was a farmer's market, but really it's more like a flea market. I'd say only 10% of the vendors there sell produce.

Thanks Oscar, Roboto.  The fruit stand looks very nice so I figured it must be a farmers' market.
$2 a lb does seem pretty good fro Hawaii.  I sell most of that stuff for $3-$4kg which is a little cheaper but this is Central America and the workers don't make as much here.  Nice to see good quality, fresh fruit available at a good price.

there are alt of people selling plants and trees too oscar,  I'd classify it as a farmer's market. I  bought 5 huge moringa cuttings the other day for 10$!

It's a good market, i like it, but it's not a farmer's market because all kinds of goods are sold, and only a very tiny percentage of sold products are produce and plants.
Real farmer's markets, like the one in Hilo, you won't find any T-shirts being sold in amongst the produce. You have to go across the street for the T-shirts.
