Mango Blooms?
« on: January 11, 2016, 09:11:26 AM »
None of my trees have any blooms whatsoever.

Are others here experiencing this?   ( West Palm Beach)

Not a single bloom yet on 15 or so trees.

was at fruit and spice park last weekend.  As I walked through the mango grove (albeit rather quickly, as I was debating whether to hustle back and eat more jabos), there was very little bloom.  I would say less than 10% had blooms and those trees were only lightly flowering  :'(  One that caught my eye as having a decent amount of panicles, was called Ritah (from jamaica is what the tag said).

Other than Alex, I would say there are not much in the way of blooms.  The problem some may have is if their trees have recently flush and the growth is not hardened off, not sure the timinv will be right for the new growth to properly harden in time for productive if any blooms to occur.

So far my Rosigold and Lanc only had a half the trees flush out, then it just stopped in early Dec.
Of the other trees that is big enough to fruit, my VP, Nam doc and Neelam have be waiting.
So here to hoping for flowers in Feb

luckily all my (mango) trees are dormant and haven't flushed since around September...I should be good then Rob?

Should we more or less give up on lychee season?

Do you have a way of controlling the water?

None whatsoever, and been getting as much rain as everyone else these last couple months...plus I have no control over the association sprinklers which come on every few days.

so, roughly speaking, how long does it take for newly flushed vegetative growth to harden off to the point where it could flower?  I imagine that if they just started to form, then it will be too late.  My pickering's new growth is almost 12" so I am hoping that there's still time for that one.

I stand to be corrected but I thought I heard Noris Ledesma say once that it takes at least six weeks.

I have blooms on Rosigold, Edward, Sunset, Glenn and Dot.  Don't know how many will hold but got my fingers crossed.  This is only five mango trees out of about 65 mango trees, so not great prospects so far.

On the plus side I have early blooms on my lychee tree...guess I had enough chill hours here in Highlands county. They are tiny about an inch or so. Fingers crossed we don't have a freeze and wipe them out  :'(

My Glenn inground has about 4 or 5 blooms...that's it!!

Ugly Betty is blooming, but there is new growth as well on the tree. Pickering is starting to bloom. Nothing at all on all my other trees, including Carrie, Bailey's Marvel, Lemon Meringue and Nam Doc Mai.

Out of my 5 trees none have bloomed and my lemon zest is completely flushed. Hopefully they will harden up by Feb and possibly bloom :(

Noticed the first bloom spike of the season this morning. Rosigold.

Several of the trees look like they might be getting ready, though with the 8 feet of rain we got this week I guess we'll see.

Hehe.  Indeed, this has been the wettest "dry season" I have seen in my 15 years here in south Florida.
