Yes.  Try a few last year and one took.

Which graft did you use?

My first (and only) attempt so far at cleft grafting Mexican creame
onto Variegated guava was failure.

I have good success rates at Annona and Mango grafting.

Didn't try to graft guava yet but rooted one in water. Planted it in soil a couple of days ago, we will see how it turns out.

Several years ago I grafted scions onto 5 seedlings. Defoliated the scion a week prior to grafting.
Wrapped the cut scion in parafilm and wedge grafted. 2 out of 5 made it. This was done in spring before it got hot.

I grafted a pink guava and a white one onto a yellow strawberry guava(psidium littorale). The pink took but the white not. The pink graft however was done a lot better and cleaner.

Basic cleft graft of Mexican Cream onto Pink made it.

Has anyone used Psidium cattleyanum (Strawberry guava) as rootstock for better types/species? I half assed a couple grafts and they didn't take.

See a couple of post above, I did approach graft mine and it took. But it's still early to see if it will survive, hasn't grow much and I still haven't completely removed the donor plant. The lighter green is the guava, darker green strawberry guava.
This is an old picture, now the cut has sealed better.

Yes, approach grafting with guava is more reliable in my opinion although it may be slower. Also you may need to support the graft till the union is fully strengthened.
Currently have a 3 in 1 guava in a container. No fruit yet.

The reason I was asking was because I am getting scion wood next month and I don't want to mess up. So I can't really use the approach graft method .

Get some buddy tape if you don’t have it already. Good luck!

i tried 3 scions of a large Asian white onto Mex cream
they all failed.

i get lots of suckers coming up from the ground
an inch or 2 away from my Mex cream.
When i pull them up by hand, i might get 4 to 5 inches of underground growth
but, usually no real roots.
if i dig them out, and even get just a small amount of root
i can get them to take, with high success...

If there is no root at all, they dont take (or maybe 1 in 10 does)
even if there is several inches of light colored stem underground.
it has to have some root.
