Three New Citrus Varieties From Spain

Spanish growers are commercially growing three new citrus varieties for the retail market. Oronules,  Clemenrubi, and the Ortanique.

I tasted ortanique for the first time past winter season. It's like a mandarin with the size of an orange and has a great taste! I love it!

I picked up an ortanique last year in a 7 gallon. I didn't let it fruit this year and it looks like it will have a real nice crown one day. I think it is suppose to fruit January through March and I needed a late fruiter. MarcV  was the ortanique you tasted seedy?

ive tried to graft ortanique several times with no success, and i have not been able to find the tree locally in southern california. but i did try the fruit and i liked the taste very much and want to get a tree when i can find one.

I don't remember how seedy it was but there were seeds that I am growing now. I also bought a plant from the Oscar Tintori nursery in Italy. That plant is currently carrying several small fruitlets but my guess is they will drop off during the winter months...
