Lemon tree issues
« on: February 17, 2020, 05:47:59 PM »
I have been having issues with black leaves on my lemon tree for two years now. I have been using pest sprays but it hasn't cleared up. It does not affect fruit production. I actually had the best production last fall. I have had this tree for 8+ yrs and its been thru 2 snowfalls in texas. Thanks for any help in advance.

Usually.......black sooty md is the result of pest feces on the leaves and stems of citrus. Can gou post a pic so I can determine what pest you have? A good spray and follow up sprays should spell the end of pest that leavd honeydew on citrus.

It certainly looks like sooty mold.  Sooty mold is a dark fungal growth that can be found on leaves and twigs especially when trees are infested by honeydew excreting insects such as aphids, mealybugs and whiteflies. The mold grows on the insects excretions.  You need to  control it by a regular spray program.  If you would rather not spray with a poisonous spray, then use a good horticultural oil spray, which is non toxic and works VERY well.

Were it my trees, I would use neem oil. Now is the time to spray. Temps are not tol high in your area. After you have used thd oil spray and the sooty mold starts to flake, a good wager spray will help remove it. Bayer and  lnide are both good systemic controls.
