"Bunchy top" type problem with garcinia seedlings
« on: August 23, 2014, 03:05:08 PM »
I have both g. Hombronia and Luc's Mexican lemoncillo. Same batch of seeds, same shade, same nutrients, same soil. Most are growing fine as in the picture below. But as you notice in the other two images, same exact plants exhibit a Bunchy top issue (something I am familiar with in bananas) where several dwarf series of leaves emerge, stay predominantly yellow and essentially seems to inhibit vertical growth.

Any ideas on the culprit? Potential treatment? (Middle is seashore mangosteen, bottom is Luc's)

Do you have them in full sun? At that size they seem to do much better in partial to mostly shade.

I don't see anything at all with the way they are growing...besides growing upside down.

also looks like maybe nutrient deficient....

first would try a drench of micro nutrients that contains chelated Fe if possible.

or just drench with plain chelated Fe if that's all u can find.

I'm curious what type of water youre using to irrigate this plant, and if it has chlorine or fluoride...and if u got well water what is the ph?  I think these plants like to be in the rang of about 6.5-6

Sedation: 50% shade cloth - no full sun.

Tropicalfruithunters: Lol, sorry about the upside down pics! Didn't notice that!

Adam: mostly rainwater these days. I supplement with well water, ph about 7. Maybe I need to throw in some coffee grounds. Will give it a dose of micros and Fe. But I was simply puzzled by this since the other seedlings are fine and have been given same treatment.

Thanks, everyone.
