Hi! Please anyone that have Dekopon can share some seeds with me? I know they are rare. Thank you very much! ;D
-
I purchased about 30 lbs of "Sumo" oranges over last winter and found maybe 3 seeds, so not sure how much luck you'll have. I managed to grow one of them, and since they're polyembryonic I ended up with 5 seedlings, 2 of which thrived/survived and were hopefully clones. They're about a foot tall now, and have been grown indoors for their entire life, as I was afraid of greening (I'm in FL).

I'm also interested in seeds, if there are any available

If you guys from California ... why don't you just order budwoods from ccpp then graft on a rootstocks that you can get from homedepot or lowest. I did t-bud grafted on c35 rootstocks last yr end of march. With less than a year look like a normal citrus tree and starting flowers few days ago

If you guys want to plant from seed then good luck for the next 5-7 yrs and might not come true from seed

Here in Europe we don't have dekopon or valentive pomelo trees for sale. The only way is to get from seeds...

I have 8 Dekopon seeds that have germinated.
I was under the impression that the seeds were true to the parent.
Are Dekopon not true? If they are not, I may toss them out. I don't want to invest several years only to find out they are not true Dekopon
-
Yes Dekopon is true from seed.
-
Thank you Millet.

Yes Dekopon is true from seed.
You have to choose the nucellar seedlings. Otherwise you can end like this. :

Buy online from www.harriscitrus.com (http://www.harriscitrus.com). Dekopon is also known as Shiraniu in Florida.
Is this the correct tree?
Is there an easy way to identify a nucellar seedling?

There is no way how to distinguish hybrid and clone visualy, if parents look similar in case of leaf shape. Usually growth rate of clone is much higher, clone seedling is stronger and hybrid seedlig has tendency to decline.

I'm in Europe, not in US. Do you know any nursery that sells trees to Europe?

Radoslav, I have 20 +- Red Clementine seedling from a fruit that I received from Laaz. 19 of the seedlings have presently grown to the same height (15 inches). One of the seedlings is a REAL dwarf at a height of only 4 inches. All are the same age.

Principally, nature supports pure lines not "bastards". This is why clones have tendency to suppress alien in seed, in case when more than one plantlet grows from seed. Sometimes are breeders forced to take budwood from hybrid as soon as possible, because the seedling can be too weak to survive. Sometimes they have to act before the grow even starts. : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embryo_rescue

Because the super dwarf Red Clementine is so short and different, that is exactly why I kept it. It is a one of a kind tree. Anyone can grow the normal offspring, they are a dime a dozen..

Blood tango fruit is now available in the grocery store. I bought some fruit but
had very few seeds and the 1 or 2 I found I crunched up while eating. The fruit
was fabulous with a very distinctive flavor and dark red color.
They were in the stores in March/April.

I tried Dekapon from the supermarket and it's sweet, has a slight mango flavor resemblance, and is very rich. It's not to my taste though. (Although in fairness I do prefer varieties more on the aromatically tart side, like Satsuma, Duncan grapefruit, Valencia orange)

Hi group - new to the forum. I am looking for a Decopon cutting if anyone would like to share one with me. :)
I have several exotic fruit seeds I could trade - Pm if interested.
I am looking to grow these Hydroponicly aboard my vessel and hope to provide some good updates to the forum!

I have both the Dekopon and Shiranui, the they look and taste very similar, but my Shiranui is a dwarf with a ton of flowers.
The Dekopon is a 6 foot tree, mature and still holding fruit, minimal flowers.
I would think they'd flower the same time but they don't.
Taste wise, they've very delicious, sweet, lightly acidic, soft chewy bite, easy peel, easy to chew, no fibers, very easy to eat.
Never seen a single seed, in dozens of fruits I've consumed, very strange didn't even know they had seeds.
-
Waxy your Dekopon & Shiranui look and taste the same because they are exactly the very same fruit. Just two names for the same fruit.
-
They have probably different rootstocks!
