Title: New acquisition
Post by: mangomandan on December 07, 2017, 07:01:05 AM
In a break from tradition I've planted a tree that will never bear mangos.

I'm told that Angelino Loqu is a small but especially tasty mamey sapote.

Beautiful tree. That should compliment your mangoes nicely. While it takes a long time for fruit to mature, when it gets going you might have mamey year round.

Where did you find it, Dan?  Is it a new variety?  The yellow tag looks like it could be "Just Fruits and Exotics."  I didn't think they carried mamey sapote.

Nothing wrong with planting a Mamey. Nice choice Dan.

Small as in loquat sized... You sure that is a mamey? Looks like a loquat and Loqu probably should have been Loquat.

You guys nailed it, a loquat named Angelino from Just Fruits and Exotics!  Sorry, Dan, if you wanted a mamey sapote.

Oh snap Dan. Looks like you’ve been had. Who sold you this “Mamey”?

My poor attempt at humor. Yes, it's a loquat.

I'm hoping it will be sweeter than the Oliver I planted 30 some years ago.

Here in Spain best variety by far is Tanaka. Big fruit, sweet and complex flavor. As good as any other fruit in spring season, a must have in subtropics in my opinion.
