My Honey KIss Mango tree has leaf tip burn from the cheap store fertilizer I used. 

The tree is 4 years in the ground and 6’ tall. 

Is osmocote a good alternative?  I was thinking I need to go to something with more slow release nitrogen.

The underripeness makes sense.  I let it get soft like a ripe avocado, but I didn't wait for the skin to turn black on the outside.  It was still green.

My Maher Black Sapote just fruited for the first time this year.  It's about a 4 year old tree.  It made a few dozen fruits.  They are upwards of 2 pounds each.  I just picked one fruit when it got lighter green colored and developed some small black spots on it.  When I ate the fruit, it tasted drier than I remember black sapote fruit tasting. 

Is the the dryness something specific to the Maher variety, or is this something that happens with younger Black Sapote trees?

In Sarasota, it’s a great year for lychees. 

FZS / Sweetheart / Hak Ip = great fruit set
Mauritius = great fruit set
Emperor = excellent fruit set, heaviest of my varieties
Kaimana = decent (medium) fruit set
Ohia = nothing

I am at the point where several of my trees are 12 feet tall or higher. I am just wondering if it would be more efficient to use a gas powered hedge trimmer on a pole instead of trimming by hand on my ladder. Has anyone found this method to be more efficient or not?

LSU purple fig should do fine. Supposedly nematode resistant.  Mine has done very well in the ground for the last few years.

Silas woods has a much slower growth habit.  5 year in ground tree is 8 feet tall and 8 feet wide.

My Alamo tree has been in the ground 5 years and is 15 feet wide and 12 feet tall.  Not a dwarf tree.

Here in southwest Florida, Silas woods is a very heavy producer. Alamo produces well but not as heavy as Silas woods.

 I take 1 foot long strips of holographic tape and tie it into knots on several places at the canopy of the tree.

 Then I put a havaheart trap below the base of the tree.

 Finally I use a scarecrow placed near the trees which I relocate every two days. This has kept the majority of my fruit intact on the trees this year.

Red morning jackfruit season just ended for me.  Picked the first one around October 1st and the last one yesterday.  As the season went on, the flesh became lighter colored and is now a pale orange and much less sweet. Still crunchy and tasty though.

I have a red morning tree in the ground.  It is a more vigorous grower than Excalibur red. My tree is 4 years in the ground from a 3 gallon container.  It has been pruned back to 15’ tall each of the last 2 years.

This year it made approximately 25 fruits.  Half of them were 20-26 pounds and the other hand were 8-12 pounds.

The fruit started coming ripe around September 1st and I have been picking them ever since. Just picked a 20 pounder tonight. 

Flesh is orange to reddish orange.  In September and October the fruit were sweet and tasted almost like jackfruit candy. The last couple of months has produced milder tasting fruit.

5 jackfruit still remain on the tree and I expect them to ripen in the next couple of weeks.

The flesh is firm/crunchy.  Low latex. Delicious.

Hak Ip and Sweetheart are the same


Mauritius is a more Consistent bearer then the other varieties but the tree tends to grow a little larger

My three favorite varieties are sweetheart (aka hak ip, fay zee siu), emperor and kaimana
