There are many different salacca's, some are better then others. You better tell which variety you like to get, there are horrible ones here in Thailand, they taste like some medicine.

From Thailand only get sala Sumalee and noen wong for the best quality. Most Balis are good and like pineapple core but the red fleshed boni and gula pasir are the cream of the crop.I personally am not fussed on any S.zalacca zalacca but Yogyarta ones are reputedly the best.Honey of sth thailand and north Malaysia has good reviews and I suspect it is a hybrid or zalacca rather than wallichiana.

I have a bunch of sumalee's now. At the market they cost double the price of the other ones.
If you like to get the seeds then PM me with your address but do it as soon as possible because i'm leaving Thailand saturdaynight. You don't have to pay me.

The sumalee has nasty small spines, i don't know if they all have that but it is not easy to peel.

Mike i have one bali salak palm growing but just learned that they are dioecious. Is that also for the bali salak? Then it is useless to grow only one i guess.
I found it allready, bali salac has male and female flowers on the same palm...

Balis you only need one but more improve the fruit set.It is Salacca zalacca var. amboina and there are around 12 good types on bali a few on nearby islands. All other species and other Salacca zalacca have seperate sexes.
