The Mango in California

Questions for SoCal growers:

Do your mature mango trees require irrigation?

Is there potential for a significant commercial mango industry in California?
(Or would that be precluded by high land prices or other considerations?)

not much, they are somewhat drought tolerant. According to Tim Thompson(Mango Professor) they require less water than avocado & Citrus. I think there is a huge potential for commercial growers. They are grown commercially is the Coachella Valley and I beat there are warm locations in the Central Valley where they could be grown commercially.

I recall a post on here a while back stating Mango Trees tolerate drought very well... In fact something about a Mango Tree in Arizona only getting receiving natural watering from the scarce annual Rain???? anyone recall that post?
