Very cool Adam. Now all you need is a E.lutescens amidst those and your can make miracles.

Adam,  em portugues,
Doce = sweet, in english
I have an eugenia pyriformis that is called "Uvaia Doce", in Brasil. It has not fruited yet, and the leaves are very small like the one you show on the third photo down.

yes Berto

this makes sense!

the one in the bottom is sweet, and has fruited...if u want budwood, I can get it for you, but the amount is limited!  it should speed up your wait for fruits.

ps
sorry in advance to others who may request budwood..I won't have more to share for a year or so.

Do you think this is E. pyriformis? I was told it was E. myrcianthes, but it fits the description of pyriformis.

Are those really the same species Adam? looks like you have a E. pseudonnona and E. pseudoboticaba on your hands there!   :P

I know bmc!  I'd say they are different species if it was a question on a test.

I think you have Eugenia myrcianthes, as labeled...i have one that was mislabeled as e klotzschiana.

I noticed after someone posted a pic of E myrcianthes.

does anyone have pics of the uvaia fruit?  A cross-section of the fruit cut open would be nice!  Thanks.  Also, if anyone wants to comment on the taste, and overall growing experience, please feel free.

THANKS
~Jeff

The second photo for sure is not Eugenia pyriformis. It looks like Eugenia lutescens, also known as perinha do Cerrado!

i gave that tree to a friend, (I wish I would have kept one...I had two large trees...but sold the last one).

my friends tree actually fruited...but the only time I was there to get a fruit, it was under ripe...I ate it anyway, and I could imagine it has a wonderful flavor if properly ripened...much like Eugenia stipitata, just not as intensely sour.

this species is definitely not the same as Eugenia myrcianthes (hexachlamis edulis)!

I have eaten both fruits, and have seen both trees side by side....totally different.

Great photos!
Adam how tall/old were the trees when they first fruited?
Are they in full sun?
I have one tree of hopefully sweet pyriformis from Oscar.  It's about 3ft high 2ft wide...semishaded area. I'm wondering how much longer to wait.

Ok, but it looks so different to uvaia and so similar to ubajay, maybe it is another unknown species?

Here at Argentina many collectors often confuse between ubajay and uvaia
