Please Help ID this Banana
« on: May 29, 2017, 09:58:29 PM »
So I was hoping someone with expertise on banana cultivars could help ID this variety. Neighbor was giving away a few plants & I got 1 of the 2 bananas she was giving away. But they weren't labeled & all she could tell me is that it's either Dwarf Cavendish or Dwarf Orinoco. Thank You!!!  :)

So the mysterious banana tree started pushing out these new leaves & im almost 100% sure I got the dwarf Cavendish instead of the dwarf Orinoco right? These splotches of red on some leaves confirms Cavendish I believe.. well I'm happy  ;D

If your neighbor was right about those being the only two possible cultivars, then it is Dwarf Cavendish. Orinoco has closed petiole canals and no wine stains, which this plant has.
