So if cherimoya can grow but not set fruit in the tropics, then I guess it wouldn't help to graft cherimoya onto the better adapted sugar apple rootstock.

I think Mikey is waiting for growers in tropical areas to tell him what happens if there's no chill hours. Will it die or just not set fruit.

Yes.  Please let me know your experiences in Florida.  Hawaii is able to grow them but I do not know if it is at higher elevation where there is chill.
They can fruit in Hawaii at  minimum 1000 ft. elevation but do better at above 2000 ft. I have some trees at 650 elevation and they fruit, but very little. No the plants don't die, they just don't fruit well. No they don't need chill in the traditional sense of temperate plant needing chill, which is below 45F. Never gets that cold here below 2000 ft. They are more like lychees than peaches in terms of temperature requirements.

I have cherimoya growing in between mangos and palms.  Had a few fruit but it has been left to grow wild these days.  Still have seeds from fruit I ate in Barcelona.   One of the best tasting fruits in the world by the way!!!

I brought back some ilama scions and only two are growing well.  The other died because my in laws over water the rootstoke otherwise it would have continue to grow.  Let’s hope it does well.

Hi Mikey,

I am growing too some cherimoya seed from Spain and Portugal, I think they are looking good but they old only under 1 years old. I am growing too some Taiwan cherimoya that I bought from supermarket, they seedling grow very well. And now I am ready to sowing some Taiwan Atemoya seed that I bought from supermarket.

In my country some nurseries sale fruiting tree of Atemoya like Pineaple Atemoya, African Pride Atemoya, Pink Mammoth and Atemoya from Australia. But not commercial yet except for Australian Atemoya.

Regards,
Alfian
