Purple new growth???
« on: November 01, 2017, 11:36:14 AM »
My trees are all inside since almost three weeks now. Lots of extra light, because of plant density also humid. I would say almost tropical. I see a lot of new growth and flower buds forming. Lemon flush is not purple like I would see in summer. Is it because of the artificial light? Or nutritional?
Here is my Buddhas Hand as an example

My Meyer, flowers are all white and only some of them a very slight hint of purple

Do I need different light to get purple? Or does it matter at all?

Beutiful trees, look so healthy!
By the way some lemon varieti like PONDEROSA or FEMMINELLO ZAGARA BIANCA have white flowers and new growth.
YOur trees  look very healthy i would not be too worried about the colour  :)

Thank you Lory. I would loove to add the Feminello zagara bianca. After you mentioned this variety the first time I was looking for it but seems not to be available here in the US? I have the Santa teresa and this one is not easy to get either.

Being italian i know very well this variety.
The word FEMMINELLO has a funny and quite weird sense meaning "light woman" i.e. a woman who is easily and often pregnant.
In the sicilian language this name was given to indicate a lemon variety that is "four season bearing" since anytime of the year you can see either flowers or fruits or more often a combination of them on the same tree.
It's a fine variety, i wiash i could have it here in the philippines....

Thank you for the explanation Lorenzo. My feminello is indeed fruiting and flowering at the same time. :)

Not wanna be boasful but it's quite amazing hoe many different climates/landscapes/styles/foods/dialects/cultures you can find in such a tiny country.
And being in trentino or in sicily feels like  being in two different continents!
Go back one day and take time to visit the south....bring a good grafting knife and a big suitcase too  ;D
