South Florida Compost
« on: November 26, 2017, 08:33:41 AM »
Hey everyone, I am new to south Florida and am looking for a large quantity of compost, does anyone have any sources anywhere in south Florida, ideally closer to napes, where I can get a large amount of high quality compost for cheap or even free?

Welcome!

Check with your parks and local government. We have tons of free mulch available here from all the storm debris.

If not, talk to some landscapers.

https://getchipdrop.com

These guys match arborists with gardeners and they drop off chips for free.

I posted some pics of my first drop in one of the threads on the main page.

Pretty awesome service.

I love Chip Drop!  I've had great results with them so far.  It's a bit of a wait for delivery, but it's worth it.

sounds like a great resource I will definatly use it, but they don't seem to have compost, compost is broken down mulch so it's quite different material, any sources for good fresh local compost?

What city do you live in?  Naples?  Some cities offer free compost, like Plantation.

If you want compost https://fortmyers.craigslist.org/search/gra?query=compost
is a source close to you. I personally make my own. Right now the mulch you get can be used in
6-9 months. In the past I have made layers of mulch and horse manure or mulch and
pine shavings from a mouse farm. I don't flip it and add water so it takes longer but
eventually you will have compost.
